I just don't think the numbers are around these days willing to pay the costs.
This is a very good point, numbers seem to be dwindling. Even at the local sites open days, players have problems with costs, work commitments etc. so they don`t get to play regularly and their interest drops then the kit goes on sale. The core of players seems to change every 6-8 months. And that`s even before someone may get interested in the ww2 side of things.
Having said that, what about Combat South`s urban site at Fort Widley. I reckon it might be suitable for a 'Brest Fortress' type German/Soviet game ?

The problem there is that the player base of Russians especially is still quite small and if you are putting the game were some of those people would struggle to get to you are limiting the available numbers again so that's another factor that has to be looked at from the organisers side of things. Unfortunately it one of those things and I hate sounding so negative but it is something to be aware of.
Couldn`t agree more bigkie, unfortunately it`s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario. Lack of eastern front games due to low soviet numbers, or low soviet numbers due to a lack of eastern front games.
Dwindling numbers could be due to lack of interesting sites. 4 or 5 years ago I was marshalling at a site based on a semi ruined farm with a regular open day attendance of close to 100 players. They lost the site to developers but got use of a victorian fort. Numbers dropped a bit as the fort was further from the main player base, so too far to travel for many, but they regularly still got around 50 or 60 players due to the novelty of the site.
They then lost that site but got use of some woodland,. Player numbers dropped off to 20 or less, as a lot of the players could find a plain old woodland site closer to their home.
I remember going to the old D Day event back in 2007, the woodland was nothing special, it was the chance to defend a beach which clinched it for me. If I`m going to travel hundreds of miles then the novelty of the site has to be the primary thought.
I love playing Kierans games against the Ruskies they look so cool and waves of them attacking are brilliant. The real problem is making it generic to get the biggest player base. I take on board the Chicken and egg scenario no games kit not worth buying etc.
A few years ago in a Vietnam game Josh made it cheaper for VC to encourage more of them. Perhaps a discount for Ruskies no matter however small may tilt people to get kit. Then it is a matter of people to voice the opinion "I have Ruskie Kit" OR start helping organise the type of game they want to play.
The more people get involved in helping out the more the type of game will evolve in what they want to play.
Yeah I know its the catch 22 situation. I understand that getting kit for an event is an expense and some people cannot really afford it. But I still hear people saying they wont get it as the y don't think its going to get used, again this is a far point but one I have been trying to sort out when you have the guarantee of at least one eastern front game a year and this year there are a couple more you could get to use it if you wanted. We also had Josh's hire kit as free loan out at the first too so people could come and get a taste for the event and not have to worry about sorting stuff.
The 900 organisers are going on a bit of a recruitment drive outside of this forum to try and entice more soviets in so you never know. Hopefully it will build and be able to field are more evenly matched game in the future.
Hikishop do repro kit at reasonable prices. It`s a lot cheaper than putting together a Brit or German or even US impression. Can I recommend a book to anyone thinking of dipping their toes into Soviet. 'The Soviet Soldier' by Phillipe Rio is excellent (have a look on Ebay as Amazon is expensive). The book is worth it`s weight in gold, the punishment battalion kit is very close to the Soviet Afghan kit and can be put together very cheaply.
While recruiting ruskies anyone want to join a recruiting drive for a Luftwaffe field division?
Would it be early or late war for the luffte field division ?
Both! I just want to get a FD unit together

A friend of mine used to be in the lufftwaffe society before it disbanded so I'll ask him on kit ideas and what not.
Very nice i think the early war look uniform is the best
Yeah , nice blue uniform
Would be good to get a few guys together in the new year as FD
MartinR, you missed the UCAP tunnels off the list. They're great! CiA organised two games there over the years.

I could be tempted, I've done LFD a few times, and all blue look would be very cool. I'd just need to rebadge my Fleigerbluse. However, I seem to have all my impressions lined up until July, so it may have to wait a bit.
Cheers
Martin

No problem Martin! possibly an early/mid war game would be ideal?
