As Dave says, we realise folk would love to see this but its on the 'possibly think about doing list', plenty of other stuff coming yet to get excited about and go shopping for!

Personally i think we havnt got enough wear out of those brit uniforms we all got for Arnhem yet without running off and buying quilted winter combats and red stars! :)

Indeed, have to be genuine Siberian frostbite, we wont accept imported Chinese types or even 'home grown' uk 'counts as' at any ostfront events.

Got access to a couple of thousand litres of the stuff. Fun little trick you can play if you have a few gallons of it and a load of washing up liquid. As long as you aint the poor sod that has to clean it up afterwards :)

Pour the Liquid N2 into warmed washing up liquid, as the LN2 boils off you get foam. Lots of foam. Enough to fill a decent sized laboratory.

Of course, I wasnt there when it happened in R50 building *cough cough*

Rick, in truth we all have a bit of stitch-counter in us!

P.S. Neill. You may be interested to know some hitherto secret information about our upcoming Stalingrad game - the Russian force will be entirely composed of 12 year olds and women with moustaches (drag acceptable). Uniform will be composed of rags and potato sacks. Shall I put you down for a family ticket? Our only rule will be that those without a sense of humour will be banned.

as long as i can come in drag...

Back on thread for just a mo - :D

I've read with interest all the comments here, and as I usually do, found myself agreeing with lots of them. In the final analysis, I think Kermit and CW have hit the proverbial nail where it ought to be well and truly struck, so I'll try not to chunter on for too long, however: -

1 No one need apologise for long paragraphs or raising hot potato type topics, so I shalln't - IMHO engaging in discussion and debate is precisely one of the things we should be doing - :D
2 Of course, the organisers of the events - which the rest of us buy in to voluntarily - have the right to set whatever standards they want - by virtue of being the organisers
3 I'm planning to turn up to Wotan looking as 'authentic' as possible, but would be upset if I thought someone else was discouraged from joining in because they had an 'authentic' looking WW2 outfit that happened to be representative of a different theatre. Personally, I'd rather see someone playing the game kitted out as a US marine in the Pacific than see someone playing in a boiler suit
4 On the other hand - if the boiler suit is all they have or can afford, then great, they should be able to play and be made welcome
5 Personally, I wouldn't want to wear a yellow topper as part of my outfit - but I understand that for quite a few other players it's all part and parcel of the 'SH experience' - something I'm not personally acquainted with, but if it adds to the overall sense of fun and doesn't intrude too much on the 'authentic feel' of the game, all well and good
6 Whatever is done or said, you can't please all of the people all of the time, as the saying goes. For me, the main thing to bear in mind is that we are all involved in this for FUN - as a means of escapism, as an indulgence - and FUN is different things to different people - we all live our contradictions, and coexisting with other human beings, even like-minded ones, is about compromise

As a final aside - I'm in agreement with Neil, also, insofar as I too am put off by 'stitch counters' - and would be equally put off if I thought everyone I was going to meet in this hobby would be one. After all, unless you're rich enough to be able to kit yourself out head to toe in the genuine article, nothing you wear is ever going to be 100% 'right' - nevertheless, I can appreciate their passion and the fact that going to those lengths makes them 'feel' as well as look the part.

Right i'd like to put this to bed now.

Stitch counting.

Stitch counting being a stitch nazi etc is picking up on stuff like the pockets are wrong on that tunic, or thats 1943 version of the chest eagle not a 44 one. etc etc.

As CW quite rightly points out we want to be inclusive but read point *2* 'authentic'

At the risk of starting a circular argument, its themed event that this comment came up about, its not a wwii open day, you can find those at many sites.

In a NWE game pacific theatre loadouts just dont fit do they? , not even with the largest stretch of the imagination or shall we open up axis bookings for Japanese snipers?

The whole premise of counts as and look alike was to give the overall impression of the look for the game at about ten metres distance (in fact i wrote a lot of it).

I'm not being stitch counter i'm asking people to keep to the same *continent* as the game is set, otherwise it just gets silly if its a 'come as you feel like' event.

Those at Arnhem will agree that theming the event created *lots* of atmosphere.

We didnt allow US (or Russian for that matter) units at Arnhem because they simply were not there, they were miles and miles away (even though at least in the same country!), not stitch counting - *theme*.

Strangley enough I know this is not re-enactment (being a re-enactor) but without a story and a theme and coherent approach we may as well just put on open day blat fests 'wwii kit on that side - modern on the other'.

Lets just look at this sensibly eh, nobodies being a fascist because they ask you to follow the storyline...

100% agreed Gadge.

Stitch counting and themedness are completely different issues
