MARINE equipment I have for so long
The pacific trailer after release
Im considering a Marine look, but there's no games to support it. not because of 'Pacific' or 'COD WAW.' Its because of the 'Thin Red Line'...'Flags of our fathers'.
These films have been around a while and it hasn't inspired new recruits
Just finished my rangers kit (inspired by jackson from Spr) .
Pound to a penny as soon as the Pacific series screens you wont be able to move for iwo jima loadouts...
Irony is though that its going to be chuffing useless for skirmishing as *no one* will do jap loadouts to provide opposition as its just not 'cool' enough.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Well its not that...its because all the repro stuff is made using a midget as the model. Its so small.
Big has a point. I don't doubt that marine loadouts will be massively more popular than Japanese but the availablity of each will play a big part as well. If SoF stock Japanese gear it might be possible to get enough players for a far East game. As soon as people have to hunt around for kit its amazing how many can lose interest. The same applies to Soviet kit IMO.
Its nothing to do with size.
Yith has a japanese cap and other kit in his size and he's six foot tall.
Its a lot more to do with the fact that the japanese and their culture and language (epsecially in the 40s) is totally alien to most westerners.
Its hard to get into an impression you cant empathise with.
They are also not cool.
A 2 minute google search found wwii jap tunics in extra large:

A parallel would be vietnam gaming. Far more US special forces in tiger stripe than NVA... You can definitely get NVA and VC kit in big sizes as i have a set of VC kit.
Problem is everyone wants to be the 'good guys' , the exception to this being the germans but i bet you if they had crap uniforms, ancient weapons and relied on mass numbers rather than being well trained it would be a different story _
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Actually what I have is this:
cap - repro from ebay, very large size.
puttees - original from a re-enactor
belt - '03 british leather belt is almost identical, I have an SOF repro.
shoes - US roughouts are almost identical, I have a pair of good repros
waterbottle - I have an NVA one, which is almost identical.
What I don't have is:
weapon: I did have a dboys k98 as a look-a-like for a while. But sold it because it was shit.
pouches: They're expensive and I've had other priorities. Also if I was to go for an SMG I have no idea what pouches the mags would go in. The only ones I've ever seen are for the rifles, not the SMG.
uniform: Whilst the repros do seem to be available in my waist/chest size, they do seem rather short. So since I've had other priorities I've not gone any further with investigating it. Certainly I have seen tall people in japanese uniform, I've just not got far with researching it. The history bunker : £88 for a cotton jacket, £56 for trousers, silly prices (my original british service dress, OR and officer put together, cost less than that before accessories)
Anyway, if a Far East game was advertised I'd want to go as a brit not a jap, so my heart is hardly in it.
Irony is though that its going to be chuffing useless for skirmishing as *no one* will do jap loadouts to provide opposition as its just not 'cool' enough.
Well, if no-one fancies doing a Japanese loadout for such Pacific games, I suggest we organise a CiA battle weekend called 'Kiska'
