Started to reclaim the house from all the kit and uniforms that have filled it over the years. 3rd little van load going out now and not made much of a dent. I keep finding stuff I dont remember owning. 3 identical USAAF AN-H-15 cloth flying helmets? I've wired one with phones, the other two can go to a new home.
CW, I can see and reach the blanco now, I might even get to take those photos I'd promised.

Blummin' 'eck! My condolences. At least, being a student, it wasn't you're 'bread and butter'.

Got a fat lip in the first game I've played without a full-face mask.
I am off to Normandy for a week and a bit.
... managed to lose the front of the crown over my shot-out tooth whilst eating an apple.
Wonderful.
Is there a BS standard for masks ?
That is a bit of an issue at the moment. The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) have been putting together a specification and test procedure for eye protection for Airsoft, but it is not yet finalised. They already do one for Paintball eye/face protection (ASTM F1776 - 09) but the Airsoft one is still in the works (and don't expect it to arrive any time soon, the work was initiated 6 years ago and is still not completed!)
Just a pity its ASTM, I've been forced to use a lot of their test procedures over the years, and quite frankly, I prefer BS/CEN - they're far easier to work from.
Moral of this tale? Just because it's spec'd for Paintball, doesn't mean it'll provide the required level of protection for Airsoft - if in doubt, test it yourself!!!!

Would I be right in thinking a bb from a T - k98 wouldnt have as much kinetic energy as a paintball, but upon inpact the compound the paintballs are made out of are much softer than a BB so they splat? If that was the case, playing in a paintball mask would be a bit silly!
Got my postwar NZ BD trousers back from the drycleaners. Then took them to the excellent Korean tailor by uni, who is moving the leg pocket to the front from the side, and, since they are so ridiculously baggy, taking a little off the legs for a dressing pocket, leaving them still ridiculously baggy, but they should actually fit into gaiters now and look close enough to ww2 issue for open days til I get the cash for good repros.

Nowhere near as much KE as a paintball round.
K98 @ 500 fps with 0.2g BB = 2.31J
Average rental Marker @ 250FPS with 0.68 cal, 3g paintball = 8.66J
Tourney Marker @ 300FPS with 0.68 cal, 3g paintball = 12.48J
However, the paintball has a much larger surface impact area and is frangible so the KE is dumped easily. A 6mm BB has a much smaller surface area, and does not deform (much) so penetration is much more likely.

yup thats what i thought, jeez 12J on a tourney marker, thats insane!
Today I found out the origin of the word 'chunder'. A bit off topic? Meh, all part of my in depth research into Blanco, believe it or not!

It actually goes back further than that! When criminals were being transported to the colonies by ship, whenever anyone was sick in the holding decks, they'd call out "watch under!", which got shortened to "'chunder!". From the same era we get the expression "Pom", which is a bastardisation of "POHM", or "Prisoner of His Majesty". (Ironic that the aussies now call us "Poms"!). There you go, amaze your friends at parties with Heides' trivia!
Anyway, today, I learned that making Maille (or chainmail), is nowhere near as easy as you might think!
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Recieved a pair of ammo boots from SOF to replace the ones that split the first day I wore them at crich, theses look better finished than the first pair the only problem is they're the wrong size SOF have agreed to replace them with the correct size but what a pain

Yes, that theory relates to usage much later and seems to be an urban myth - you would say ‘Watch out below!’ surely! The 'Chunder Loo' origin is the earliest documented usage. However, the Australian connection is there though! Barry Humphries in the 60's seems to have been responsible for it staying in common usage...

Like I always say about the film industry. It's not what you know.....it's who you know!
Most certainly...
BTW everyone who was at St Lo... (and playing) is in the wwii re-enacting mag... because there are group photos of both sides.
