Hi all,

Following on from a recent post i did (mess-tin around) i recently purchased an A-frame.

Firstly i was very please with the quality, the frame is much more stable than it looks.

The mess tins were easy to install and sit perfectly, the whole thing feels quite comfy,

The only real criticism is the assault/combat bag, its slightly smaller than i thought, now i know in wartime it was used for various personal items, plus those things i dare say you couldn't quite fit into the bread bag. im trying to think of a piratical use for it in air-soft though.

Now im sure i could fit extra ammo and some small bits in, i was just wondering if anyone actually uses it for storage, and what do people manage to cram into the thing?!

Thanks

John

According to the Der Erste Zug site ( http://www.dererstezug.com/Aframebag.htm ) it *should* contain the following:

The regulation also specified that the bag would contain the following items and the following items only: one woolen sweater (Schlupfjacke), 1 half Iron Ration (verkürzte eiserne Portion), and 1 tent line (Zeltleine). The half iron-ration consisted of a can of beef or pork measuring 3” x 2 ⅝”, weighing 200 grams, and 300 grams of hardtack crackers (Hartkeks). Together, these items were fairly bulky and took up most of the space in the Beutel zum Gefechstsgepäck, once they had been placed in the mythical “ration bag.”

I used to keep my esbit stove in mine, along with my cutlery and some assorted food/instant coffee, with a (very thin) sweater to stop it all rattling around and pack it out.

John I use the A Frame now and again really good piece of kit and looks good. The bag have never used as it appears that you really need to pad it out with stuff to give it its shape or it flops around.

A British mess tin fits neatly in the assault bag to pad it out. I then fill it with sandwiches and chocolate bars for lunch :)

German load bearing equipment really is a pile of shite.....

You mean to say that self-dismantling when you unbuckle your belt isn't actually part of the design?

It was all carefully designed to ensure that:

a) you can't carry anything over and above what was authorised.
b) you can't take it off without the assistance.

the self dismantling feature is unintentional but makes it easier to disassemble for polishing and leather treatment I suppose :)

Cheers
