There's an interesting article in Der Erste Zug about the correct fit for a tunic:

[link]http://www.dererstezug.com/FieldBlouseFit.htm[/link]

Most people buy too big. The jacket should be a snug fit and the cuffs should stop at the wristbone. You could argue that the undernourished state of the average Landser towards the end of the war and the "what we got is what you get" attitude of quartermasters would make a baggy tunic OK but if you want a parade ground look it's worth reading.

Aye the Jäger idea is obviously playing second fiddle to the Infanterie, which is understandable. Whilst I still have my Jäger-badged tunic, if a certain somebody makes me do it, I may well convert it to a Pionier one.

Heh... and I did notice that one "Jäger" is actually a Gebirgsjäger!

Very good article... which is now going to force me to go and try on all my tunics to check the fit!

The only tunic which fits me correctly is my pirschen one. My sturm is too big. I now wish I hadn't read that article.

Nah I'll skim over that article, I'm a million miles away from 20 years old, skinny and deprived of food. Aside from accentuating height, that cut accentuates the gut, so I'll stick to oversize and blame the QMS

Hello, I have purchased an M40 tunic and trousers with a Ski cap from Stoneliegh the other weekend and ended up watching 'Where Eagles Dare' last night, just wondering if people are still protraying the Jager look and if so, can I join you, this is my first dab in to German loadouts. :good:

"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

Hi Paul, I'm not sure if there are more than one or two who portray Jäger now. Nothing to stop you doing it, of course, but the majority of us do Infanterie.

Either way, best advice is to get some BeVo generic Litzen (collar tabs), so you can portray any unit - just a change of shoulderboards required, in most cases.

Cool, I've got a set of Inf shoulderboards with it anyway, I'm going to build up to it anyway, Just need to sort out webbing and get my helmet finished with a proper chin strap and a cover to hide the repair marks

Cheers

Cool. If you're going for a helmet cover, splinter pattern is best.

Porta, Just thought I'd come out of retirement to tell you jagermeister is the vile work of satan. Red bull or otherwise.

So wheres all the piks of you guys in kit? I'm very tempted to badge up as Gebirgsjager and come out to play when I'm a little less busy.

The litzen is a shade darker than panzer grenadier litzen, I used Berol felt tips to make my panzer grenadier litzen from infantry litzen back in the day, and was literally going to use the next pen along to change from Panzer to Gebirgs. The "German army handbook 1939-1945" has the shades in these somewhere(Edit: no it dosen't, I've just checked, along with Badges and insignia of the 3rd reich 1933-45, last resort- use wikipedia), just marry it up with the pen and you have the right one without any problems. If I find it would it be any use for me to let you know the shade of pen? I recall they each have their own number.

not sure i could tolerate the tight fit(i get claustrophobic in tight clothes), but it explains what i could not put my finger on about why i look a bit wrong in my German kit.the only German field jacket that looks right is my fliegerbluse and it might not for very long as i've lost weight recently.

armoury
m1a1 Thompson,sten mk2,mp40,stg44,sterling,mk2 bren gun,lee Enfield no4 mk1,Mauser Kar98, Walther ppk,smith and Weston m10 and Mauser m712
Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
