Hmm.... daft question: would an officer carry the same sort of gear as an EM? i.e. breadbag, gasmask tin, mess tins, flask, e-tool, etc?
Yes and no . In combat an officer would possibly use an EM belt as it's tougher. Probably one mag pouch instead of two, with a mapcase and pistol on the left. Breadbag, gasmask, mess tins and flask would all be part of his kit . This is typical for senior NCO as well .
However you wouldn't expect to see a Major carrying all this clobber around , and even more junior officers might opt for a lighter load out . As ever it's a what, where, when, dynamic. Are you defending or attacking carrying all your gear?
I have directed several battles without any more than a pair of gloves and a crop ,
depends how much you want to shoot / how much you want to act . ![]()

Not even clothing??!
Cheers Guy. I've already decided to stick with the EM belt, because I've seen photographs of officers wearing them.

Yes, any Heer unit comes under the Landser umbrella (or rather, Regenschirm
)... especially GD!
Excellent! my next planned loadout is a GD black panzer tank commander, ostensibly so i can do organising on the german side at PBI events, but mainly because i just want a blinged up black uniform.

I believe it does - Neill keeps saying he's going to do a Gebirgsjager impression, too. ![]()

At last, one of our own with an MG!!! Good to have you on board mate, and don't worry about the weapon situation, I'm sure someone will sort you out... ![]()

Excellent and thanks. Will go and get my ausweis for the weekend sorted
Room for one more?
I just received my new feldgrau kit yesterday and am currently sewing on the collar tabs etc. I have gone for an M36 jacket and am sticking with a Gebirgsjager impression so edelweiss a go-go. I am not sure whether it would be appropriate to sew on a iron cross second class ribbon or gefreiter rank chevron? Weapons are Mauser G33/40 and MP40.
I have pretty much all the kit you have listed: gas mask tin, zeltbahn, belt and Y-straps, water bottle etc. but I dont have (and probably wont be able to get) authentic boots. I have a problem with having size 12 flat feet which makes buying footwear very difficult! I am currently using full leather german para boots with gaiters over the top - apart from having a rubber sole they look pretty close. Is that going to be acceptable
Cheers!
Josh
As regards the boots, that would be fine mate. You can get postwar marching boots well cheap, although if you're doing GJ you probably want to stick with the boots/gaiters combination. I'm sure I read somewhere that GebirgsJager/Truppen wore puttees with their boots. That makes two of you now, WhosWill?'s got a set on the way. ![]()
P.S. Did you manage to get mountain green boards/litzen?

Josh your actually in luck - normally old Brit army Boots Combat High are perfect for the 'low boot and gaitor look'.
however since your impression is mountain troops, you can wear the German para boots - as the lacing system is very similar to the german mountain boot, only thing missing would be the cleats on the sides of the boots lol
You could also wear putties if the gaiters don't look right - but both were worn.
heh Kavster - we posted double info lol
Cheers for the info guys. I did manage to get green waffenfarbe shoulder boards but not litzen as yet (though I think it was fairly common to see troops with generic litzen). I would love to get hold of some putties but I havent found any available - is there an online store that selld them?
Cheers!

Hi Josh, welcome aboard! As per the spirit of CiA, we're not going to fall out over incorrect boot soles!
Seriously mate, I have exactly the same problem - flat size 12s. If they fit width-wise, they are loose at the laces - however, on the advice of my osteopath, I have invested in full-length orthopedic insoles - you can get them from Boots the chemist - and they really help, and also with knee pains associated with flat feet. I believe Anthony from Militaria-Net (aka The Reich Stuff on this forum) does do good short boots should you want to invest in a pair - however, apart from our weapons, we all know footwear is the most expensive item, so any boot with gaiters is perfectly fine mate. ![]()
Feldgrau M36 sounds brilliant - and feel free to put your insignia on.... although I would suggest that nobody goes above Hauptmann! ![]()

Cheers for the welcome all! Thanks for the info Steiner I will have to investigate those inserts.
Now I just need to get down to a game! ![]()

Check SoF for the litzen if Anthony doesn't have 'em - I had to do that for my Luftwaffe FD farbe. I think dog_green_1 might have some GJ litzen, too. M36 was early war/pre war, so I reckon mostly they'd be farbed up.
