Obviously, I've got full "lesson plans" for these, in much greater detail, including lots of hands on, mostly using the "Explanation, Demonstration, Imitation" method. Feel free to make suggestions, bearing in mind time constraints. Stu has agreed to play "enemy" where needed. It's a very full day! (Times are best guess!). I've done some research and am adapting to WW2 methods where I have sufficient information.

Fantastic! Yes mate, go for it. Gives me time to go and set something else up while you run 'em around!
I've got both Lensatic and prismatic compasses you're welcome to use, should you need them, or just to let the "students" use.

Cool , and old style WWII lensmatic and a Silva is what I was thinking .TBh WWII style compass will do them bets for the accuracy we require.
Will er....cast my mind back 25 years to see if I can come up with a lesson plan .
The modern British army Lensatic compass is identical to the WW2 one anyway, except for the colour and the modern one is in mils, not degrees! I'll dig mine out between now and the day, although God knows where it is!
Just keep it simple, no need for the "grid to mag add" stuff. GC is too small to worry about that.

Pete: if this itinerary covers the aspects you feel covers what is needed for the event (I can't think of anything else, other than how to keep warm by day and night - clothing/sleeping arrangements) why not post up the list and ask if there is anything punters want to cover. Then build in or disregard as you see fit.
I'm quite sure chaps will be getting quite excited by this...
(I've got a repro brass WW2 lensmatic in one of the Brit boxes somewhere..)

Will do, just a bit of editing required.
I had planned to put up a kitlist, (which would mention the need for some extra, warm kit to be carried), closer to the date, once everything is confirmed price wise.
If anyone else has something to contribute to this, either teaching wise, or suggestion wise, please say so!

It's a long day but, I think it's the only way to get it all in and prepare people adequately for the main event.

Flippin 'ek - excellent!

I'm putting up some simple guides for people, in the hope it may help them put their kit together reasonably before the day and minimise faffing. I've done ration packs and now, bergen contents. Next, I'll do belt kit.
I'm having real trouble posting lately, when I hit "submit", it sometimes all disappears and I end up having to do it again. Out of paranoia, I'm posting what I can and then just editing constantly for fear of losing it all if I type too much. I've even resorted to doing it all as word documents, then pasting it in. At least that way, if it vanishes, I have a saved version on word!

Oh dear - its not a problem with the forum itself. I had a spate of this years ago and so now, out of habit, when typing and stuff out I always CTRL A then CTRL C to copy text into memory then submit. If foobar then open up a new post and CTRL V to copy saved text back into the empty new post.
Anyhoo, this stuff is really good - hopefully it will stop people rushing out and buying stuff they don't need. In fact it might be an idea to say 'don't by anything until you've been on the course' so people can discuss and see the reasoning. Martin is going to struggle with a full cordon blue cookery set, huge down sleeping bag AND carry a 40lb radio pack!

Just put up a belt kit guide as well.
Edit - and finally, after 6 attempts, a smock contents guide as well.

I've printed off a more detailed "organiser" copy of the schedule for each of us. I'll give them out on saturday.
