Hi Phil and welcome to the forum
Hi Phil,
Just pick an event you want to go to and start from there. Every game will list the uniform requirements. You then start putting your impression together by acquiring what you need. The initial outlay for your first game can be expensive so make sure to ask a lot of questions before you start buying. People will help steer you away from duff purchases and you'll find a lot of good quality gear being sold on, which can make it all more affordable. People are also often willing to lend out gear so you can still play even if your impression isn't 100 pc complete.
Hello all.
My name is Phil Riches, I'm 40 years old and am very keen start WWII Airsofting. I've Live Action Roleplayed, and paint balled in my time - so I have a feel for suspending disbelief and pretending to be something you're not. I'm also a member of a Star Wars charity costuming group (501st UK Garrison) so I've worked on assembling costumes to a high degree of accuracy and realsim. With a great passion for WWII films (one of my favourite films is The Eagle Has Landed and the first film I saw at the cinema was A Bridge Too Far), I'm very keen to get into this hobby. A group of my friends run a modern day Roleplaying Airsoft group, but it doesn't quite push my buttons, I prefer WWII.After looking at the kit guides I'm very keen on playing a Fallschirmjäger or one of the 2nd South Staffords.
I was wondering how I go about preparing for an event, and meeting up with and joining you guys.
Very green around the gills, but enthusiastic,
Phil
welcome to the forum mate
I've looked through a number of the posts and decided a plain Heer costume is as a good a place to start as any. I saw someone else had posted a newbie starter kit. I was wondering if this was acceptable:
M43 Ski Cap
M40 Tunic with chest eagle and Heer Em collar tabs(no rank) and M40 trousers
Jack boots, Black
Belt + heer buckleMarsha are you also in the 501st? If so cool, I remember talking to you about the hobby at the Birmingham troop. At least I know someone here already
yup its me and the newbie is the best way at least after you got the basic kit you can always build it up later

Hi and welcome.
Ditch the ski cap in favour of an M35 helmet, and you've got a great starter kit, suitable for all fronts* and periods of the war.
As B&H said, there are plenty of us who lend bits of kit for events - take a look at the events and get signed up. ![]()

Hi there matey, and welcome to the forum. Star Wars reenactors? Wow, our reach really is extending far and wide eh?

BedsnHerts has given some great advice which is pretty much how I started and have continued, my first event I started with 1 German uniform and now have several, welcome to the bug that is WW11 Airsoft

Hello and welcome.
Lots of good advice above, just to add that if you've never, ever played airsoft before it might be an idea to try a game or two to see how you get on with people shooting at you with BBs. If your mate has got a modern group together, why not tag along with them and borrow some kit before spending loads on WW2 stuff?
Cheers

Hi welcome to the forum shame you can not make it to my event.

Free speech is expensive these days!

hi and welcome
ww2 and star wars were both a long time ago so cant see a problem there, seriously though try some regular airsoft first to be sure, then just get the verry basic stuff but dont compromise on quality, better a little of the right stuff abnd build up slowly, you dont have to be perfect first time out.ive done modern muilsim and ww2 airsoft ,the ww2 has a far nicer following with a more sporting and imersive spirit with a less competitive edge, thats not to say its layed back but ive rarely seen cheeting .
