Why ask if you intend to do it anyway?

Nothing like a warm welcome to a forum hey guys!?

Bit like deciding you might like golf, forking out £1K on" the right clubs" and another £500 on membership just to find you you can't stand golfers.

ive seen gaufing people do just this

I can see how that'd be a problem- having run the university club for 2 years i know all about new guys coming in and spooging on useless stuff. I'm wanting Airborne kit to use at regular games with my friends from uni as well though, for which close enough is fine :D The fact that i get to go to ww2 games is well is great, and if i like them i'll kit up properly when i have the disposable income :)

*edit* while i'm here- am i right in thinking that Gaiters aren't going to fit right over modern high boots? My calf's are tiny which is what the measurements seem to be based off but once i add the boots... Am i better off measuring around the top of my boot?

If you're wearing modern boots, then I'd advise getting size 4 or 5 gaiters.

Hey guys, me again.

Having some trouble finding Anklets in green but keep finding plenty in RAF Blue- How hard would it be to re-colour them?

Generally, webbing should be blanco'd - that is, treated with a green substance - it used to be in tablet or powder form, but can now be bought in a bottle. So, it might take a couple of coats, but you should be able to re-colour blue gaiters green.

As Andy says, it is possible and indeed practical (although you should be able to find anklets easily - Soldier of Fortune stock them, or Shoot n Scoot might have some knocking about).

Buy Warren's Blanco http://www.shootnscoot.co.uk/shoot-and-scoot-blanco-n03. Whether you buy RAF or Army originals or indeed repro make sure to wash them to remove dirt, grease and oils. Scrub RAF thoroughly to remove as much colour as you can, this will make the colour change easier without having layers caked on to cover the blue.

The pistol holster was originally RAF blue-grey.

A bit about cleaning webbing here: http://www.blancoandbull.com/how-to-remove-blanco-from-webbing/
A bit about SnS's blanco http://www.blancoandbull.com/repro-blanco/shoot-scoot-kg3-repro/

I just got some nice size 3 khaki anklets from Shoot & Scoot which were plastered in RAF blue blanco! It scrubbed off easy enough, two half hour soaks in soapy hot water.

Thank you Flight Lt Cunnigham.

Cheers

Yea, i spotted some on some shops but i'm on a ridiculously tight budget '>.>

In other news, the rest of it arrived :L

Had a go in it last weekend down at Phoenix Skirmish. Everyone loved it, especially me.

Gotta say, storming trenches and bunkers in this rig is probably the most awesome thing i've done in a while :L

That said, anyone know how the hell i'm meant to wash wool trousers? '>.>

*edit* also yes, i have been told i need to shape my beret...

NEVER WASH THE KIT

let it have the "lived and fought in look", and smell

my joseph porta outfits been going 5 years, and never been washed, its been rolled in the mud, puked on , had all kinds of alchahol split on it, been put in a campfire, (whilst still being worn) been scorched by pyro and smoke, pissed on when i was too drunk to care and it looks like very authentic well worn outfit :good:

here you can see how GOOD a dirty outfit looks, tinys on the left, porta on the right, and a tramp we found who had pissed himself  (hes sometimes a mod on here i think  )

then there is steiner, the only german whos never lay on the floor in 5 years of ww2 airsoft :giggle:

Folowing Steiners advice, I let my wool trousers dry and then just brush the mud off with a stiff brush. They are slowly acquiring a 'worn in' patina. I believe Yith actually washes his Battle Dress in the washing machine, wool wash I guess.

I spent twenty minutes or so stomach crawling through all the mud in the garden this afternoon, to tone down a new smock which is a bit brightly new atm. I then left it out in the pouring rain and sunshine.

Cheers

I think technically it would be true to say washing 'damages' material too.

It all pales into insignificance though, compared to wearing and fighting in a uniform in an airsoft skirmish or a weekend battle!

Heh, I've just recently washed a uniform for the first time in five years - and that was because I'd sold it and the buyer didn't want my filth in his house (which is fair enough!).

I did wash my previous battledress in the machine (yes, wool wash). With my new set I've only so far tested the water with a hand wash.

I only ever hand wash my JGs, if they were machine washed they'd be KDs... Sanjay's dye isn't colour fast. One pair is so fecked I look like an extra out of Bridge over the River Kwai in it.

Since US kit is Dry Clean Only, I have smart stuff and scruffy stuff... the scruffy trousers are especially minging.

If you do decide to wash your wool BD trousers, DO NOT put them in the dryer!!!! Let them hang dry. That applies to most any old repro item you'll find.

Washing / modern detergent definitely causes more wear than letting clothes dry and brushing off the worst of the mud. I had a dirty (original) German flask cover that I decided to soak with some soap powder - ended up with a great big hole in it.

Aw, Porta - offside!! That pic was the first time I'd ever worn my Feldgrau.
