Chaps, as Chommers says elsewhere, let us try as hard as we can (restricted by our various budgets, I know) to get the correct look for 1940. A good visual is the uniform guides here http://www.dasheer.org.uk/uniformsandequipment.htm . The following are an ideal - not rules - just what would be achievable if money were no object:
M36 or M40 wool tunic
Steingrau (stone grey) trousers - I'd recommend Pirschen for these.
Jackboots
No Y-straps - belt hooks instead
M35 helmet, apple green, with double decals
No M43 ski caps
Also, little items can make a real difference: Kragenbinde - collar liner. Cheap as chips on ebay. Anti-gas cape pouch - Underwood does repros for £8.50 - strapped to the gas mask tin - very much the early war look.
I know Kermit is planning to go as SS-VT, so he might have some input about that particular kit.
Any other ideas?

All good Steiner!
Yes, for this event the Germans are well maintained, have a cohesive structure and are strictly disciplined.
We are avoiding indiscriminate camo for this game. You can carry a zelt by all means but use it for weather protection only - use helmet foliage if you want to make yourself invisible!
Carrying full clobber would be great - gas mask tins, mess tins, bread bags, water bottles, pockets bulging. Obviously some weapons will be anachronistic but we can live with that, we won't be restricting everyone to bolt action but don't expect to have limitless supplies of ammunition on tap at all times. You could always put MP40 mags in your breadbag, for instance, thereby doing without MP40 pouches.
If you have a greatcoat then bring it - it may be July but on guard or on patrol you might be glad of it if it's windy or wet!
Overall look - grey uniform and steel helmet would be perfect. If you have been thinking of putting a Heer impression together then this is the event to give you the motivation! There will be SS involvement but it would be fantastic to have a Heer majority for a change!
Anyone know the RAL colour for apple green lids?
Hi, can we get a straw poll going as who is going to come to which side as I would like to go British but I always worry there will not be enough Germans, and I have an M36 uniform with jackboots all ready to go!

I really suspect there will be fewer brits than germans for this one.
I'm planning on doing Brit for this one, but as it's such a small game, i doubt there'll be any problems keeping the sides level.
Anyone know the RAL colour for apple green lids?
No point. The RAL "apfelgrun" now is completely different from the one on the WW2 era RAL charts (Lots of revisions to paint tones since '45, with quite a few deleted as well)
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Any modern equivalent we can use?

I've seen current RAL 6003 quoted
http://www.e-paint.co.uk/RAL_Colourchart.asp
http://www.shandcycles.com/media/resources/misc/ral/
It doesn't look 'Apple green' to me though (but then they don't specify what sort of apple ) but then it's description is Light Field Grey, so that's fair enough.
Anyhoo, others have used B&Q type paint mix systems for eggshell paint

I've been reading into helmet colours ( ) and although I'm not certain on the dates I think its possible the later darker colour (6006 I think) is ok for France. I believe the colour changed in early 1940, the same time as the factory applied texturing was introduced.
The majority of helmets would still be the earlier apple green as only the new ones would be a different colour and soldiers would be unlikely to have repainted their helmets themselves at this stage.
I could be wrong as it can be bloody confusing but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Source, old bean?

All over the bloody shop. Only on t'internet though- nothing paper.
On a side note I do have some 6003 that looks nothing like the colours in the charts but could be ok for apple green. Paint shop did a crap job on that one.
I beggining to suspect this could turn into the German blanco thread!
Aye I think you are right Lardy, the the M40 would have been RAL6006 anyway.
Frankly, as the German troops are fresh as a daisy and have been newly issued kit then 6006 is fine (there I just invented the story behind the garrison for this game) so no need to stress about helmet repainting. (Although if you want a lighter colour M35 helmet then go ahead and paint it - it will still be 'right', just not the same as most people's!)
Lardy - Applegreen is a misnomer really, it's Light Field Grey. I'm guessing it's a bit like Dulux 'Grecian Garland' WTF?
The same thought crossed my mind! Argh, the shame of it! Make this thread private NOW!!
Anyway, I'll be bringing a pea along to the event, to make sure their blanco is the correct pea green.

Verdammt!! They've spotted this thread!

Everyone has their own "blanco"...
Germans have helmet colours...
Yanks have OD3/OD7 webbing/uniform variances
What do Soviets have?

Kinda hoped I was. I was looking for a colour that would be suitable for France as well as the longest period possible afterwards to use on my next helmet. That way I would get maximum usage out of it without the need to repaint.

Well since we're all going to be in nice new stonegrey trousers we'll fit the fresh new unit look perfectly.

Quick! Edit your posts! Destroy the evidence!!!

Good question. Uniform colour varied hugely so doesn't really matter. Helmets were basically all one colour so its either right or wrong. Tunic pockets for EM maybe?
From my point on view as one of the men organising this one ....
Germans
Feldgrau...no smock no camo at all . Splinter Zelt if you really must but no SS Camo
SS - in France 1940 ..there weren't many . Heer's is better but rebadging for one game is a bit daft , so , if you SS forgo your cammo I'll be ok with runes
No M43 Caps , lets have helmets or sidecaps please , & ideally no MP44s ( even if you have just bought one .) Kars, MP40s will do me . MG42 is ok too
Brits
No Denisons or other cammo please
Battle dress or near aproximation
Be lovely to see you all in flat helemts as well if possible.
RAF dress wouldalso be entirely appropriate as ground crew/ pilots.
This is the first ever early war game after nerly 2 1/2 years of WW2 airsoft .
I would ask that if we all put in a little effort on behalf of each other it will look a lot different to other events, rather than it being another "post DDay" thang.
You all dress nicely and get into the Phoney war and I'll bring some Stukas...
Got this snippet from pgnet forum... "For the may 1940 campaign, paint your helmet RAL6006 flat , with a single eagle decal. By order of march 1940 all apple green helmets were to be painted over in 6006 and 3-color decals were to be removed, both to aid in camouflage."
