I know it's a long way off yet but, no harm in being prepared! I propose that we handle bookings differently for this. Rather than have seperate lists for Allies and Germans, we lump them all on one, big list. When people send payment, they simply state which side they will be on, so we as organisers know who is who. I want to inject a serious sense of mistrust in the SS guards, regarding anyone not wearing an SS uniform.

Yep agreed .

Re the "selection" / training weekend ....suggest potential SOEs are mandated to attend . We can do it as a freebie for all given a site I know we can use , make it a full 24 hourer to really put them through their places.

Also suggest that anyone wanting to do SOE contact Pete via PM .

It's a good idea that we emphasise that SOE teams will be on their own, so need to be switched on and trustworthy. I'm happy to "vet" potential SOE players and tell any mongs it might not be a good idea!

A 24 hour training day would be great. Never done one for airsofters before!

Right, as Pete's said we're opening booking at the end of March I suppose we'd better get started on the bookings. I'm happy to manage this side of things.

Pete, could you write a paragraph or three about the event to sell it a bit more please? It's all a bit thin on info at the moment.

Because we want to make sure we have the right sort of people for SOE we need to work out how to organise bookings.

Pete, I suggest the best was to do this is for interested parties to PM you for info and to put themselves forward. Obviously we'll need to keep the names of attendees secret for both sides so that people don't just see who's on each side.

To that end, I suggest the following:

Operation Foxley -

July 1944
The Allies are ashore in Normandy and are pushing out further into France but are facing stiff opposition all the way. There is a feeling among many in Whitehall that the war could drag on for a long time, at the cost of millions of lives. SOE have hatched a daring and risky plan to potentially shorten the war by assassinating Hitler and members of his high command, allowing the anti-Nazi elements in Germany to take control. Small teams will be inserted close to Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" retreat with the simple order - "Eliminate Hitler at all costs, by any means necessary.

This is the official booking thread. As with all Comrades in Arms events, once you have booked and paid your name will appear on this list. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY.

Before you book some final words about the event:

1. This is a CiA WW2 enactment event. We are looking to achieve a feel for what it was like to be a soldier in WW2. To do this we use a mixture of re-enactment, airsoft and role playing and encourage people who come to our events to embrace the same mindset. Most of all it is about having fun.
2. The site is large - over 200 acres. It will run in a 24hr format with breaks only to be taken when possible or on rotation. There will be no formal lunch break or end-ex at night. Those that wish to continue through the night can, others can sleep when and where appropriate.
3. Players will need to attend for the entire event over two days. Once the event has started CiA organisers will not be able to accommodate late arrivals or early leavers unless in an emergency.
4. This is a restricted uniform event. Usual CiA rules re kit, weapons and camping, detailed here. For this event we are trying to be as inclusive as possible. Any German or British uniform. We are also incorporating a civilian element into the event who will be able to play as German sympathisers or partisans. Ammo limits are TBC and will be strictly limited for both sides.
5. Comrades in Arms has a minimum player age of 18 (at game date).
6. You do not need to be a member of Comrades in Arms to attend this event, it is open to all.
7. If you have a period vehicle and want to use it in game then please PM an organiser.
8. If you don't have the kit or weaponry to attend this event, simply ask if you can borrow some kit of a friendly fellow-player by asking in the main event forum.
9. This event costs £55 to attend which must be paid in full in advance. (See below)
IMPORTANT!

For SOE players, you MUST send a PM to Sgt.Heide to register your interest and discuss the event BEFORE you book and send your fee. The role of SOE operative will be taxing Sgt.Heide will be running a training day for SOE in May. More info here. Any SOE operatives posting in this forum about how they're really excited to be attending and are looking forward to blowing up Teh Jurmans will have failed the first test of being an undercover SOE operative. We will not be posting details about who has booked for SOE roles.

There are unlimited places on the German side. Uniforms should be either SS or Heer, please avoid airborne. German players can book without prior contact.

We also have an unlimited number of civilian places for people interested in attending in this role. We will be incorporating specific tasks for civilians as well as allowing a freer role-playing element to 'improvise' and either work with or against the German occupying force. Civilians should be French or any displaced European (within historical context).

Payment is £55 in full and can be paid in two ways:

- Paypal to info(at)comrades-in-arms(dot)co(dot)uk
- Cheque payable to 'Comrades in Arms' and sent to:
Stephen Badham
c/o Creative England
Birmingham Science Park Aston Ltd
Faraday Wharf
Holt Street
Birmingham
B7 4BB

Include your full name, forum name, and role you are playing.

Game fees are non-refundable, however the place is transferable. If you are unable to attend then you may make your own arrangements to swap with another player, you can use the forum for this purpose. We only ask that you transfer German for German, Allied for Allied. If you want a side swap it must be approved by CiA organisers before transfer.

Player List Because of the nature of this even we will not be revealing who has booked for each side, we will only list the names of those booked.

Have you read the bit where I go into detail about how the SOE bookings will be kept secret? I'll be entering them on the thread as 'Booking #1' etc.

What sort of price do you think?

Overall, that's pretty good. My few pence worth are that...

1 - Yes, it's too cheap! Should be £50 at least (people are happy to pay £65+ for 7 hours of play at Josh's games!).
2 - German forces are Heer and SS with a few civvies, no airborne.
3 - SOE operatives will need to take a set of civvies or German uniform, so they can be absorbed into the German side should they be captured/killed.

How's this for the "pitch"?

"July 1944. The Allies are ashore in Normandy and are pushing out further into France but, facing stiff opposition all the way. OK, will make those changes and put in the paragraph.

It might be good to put a bit about what all this will mean to the players, especially the Germans. We really need to sell it to them as a weekend of living history with combat and patrolling and make it sound exciting!

Do we also need to add a civilian element and take bookings for them too?

We're going to have to keep much of the German bookings secret too if we want SOE to infiltrate in uniform.

My suggestion for bookings is to just have 1, long list of players, with no indication of what side anyone is on.

Same prices as Josh charges , £55 . Why the fuck should we do anyone any favours? Plenty of people happy to pay for sisks , they will get more bang for the buck with us . CiA regulars, ie people we know , then £40 should suffice.
Depends what you've offered Doubletap I guess.

OK, I've updated the booking info.

Please take a read through and I'll post it up on Saturday if we're all happy. I've included a more detailed line on civilians as I think they could play a really good role - especially if there are people who fancy SOE-lite and don't want to be German, or want to be in with the Germans but don't have the uniform.

I'm happy with £55. I need to double-check but I think we agreed £1300 flat-fee site hire for Cerberus last time. We'd need 24 players to cover that. 40 players, which I think we could reasonably get, should cover any expenses we incur.

Good post here Steve viewtopic.php?f=210&t=14934. Pretty much sums up my thoughts. If we don't get enough players, then, bollocks to them I say. I've had enough of seeing SISK's, gay blats and stitch count circle jerks getting loads of players and our type of event struggling. If that's what people want from WW2 airsoft these days, then I'll struggle to keep my motivation for it all, after all that CiA have given to the WW2 scene. Let's see how it goes, fingers crossed!

Ditto.

Like I've said, there is a problem with the way we're running the event and managing bookings as it doesn't exactly encourage discussion. Still, these days the forum isn't exactly the most lively place.

Pete, do you have access to Gunman's forum to post it there? I think you'd get a more positive response than me there! ;)
