hi all,i'm thinking of going as hermenn goring division to op husky.heve been on there web site looking at uniforms.so was going to wear,fj helmet,luftwaffe tropical tunic with italian camo trousers.but have only seen them wearing splinter camo trousers and tropical trousers.would they have worn italian camo ?

I haven't seen any pics of them wearing Italian camo. They were issued with oakleaf and palm tree between 42 and 43, which was then replaced by splinter.

I think you could say Italian camo is more iconic as an SS thing, splinter being more apt for HG on Sicily. In any case, the Panzer-Division Hermann Göring hadn't been on the island that long before they were kicked off - I'm sure Italian camo stuff would have been more prevalent on the mainland when the Italians surrendered to the Allies and the Germans asset-stripped the Italian forces / factories / stocks.

would the 15th panzer grenadiers in siciy ,had the heer olive green drill tropical tunics,have seen a great pic of heer soldier in italy wearing tropical tunic with luftwaffe tropical trousers.i'm getting full rig out this week but want it looking the dogs bolls

I'm not the person to give you a definitive answer - but the Axis troops in Sicily were kitted up and destined for Tunisia but never got there as the North Africa campaign ended and so were sent to Sicily instead to bolster the Italian troops as an invasion was expected. It was a mechanised division so I imagine tropical panzer wraps, general heer summer uniform, lufty tropical, splinter wraps & trousers are all plausible.
It will be interesting to see what others can come up with photographically - not much I can find on interweb, so need chaps with books!

thanks for your help chomley,have just orderd all my uniform it will be ere to moz. had to get it from soldier of fortune never had clothing off them befor so hope its going to me ok.there tropical trousers look good thanks agine DAVE

I would say the question is why, except out of perversity, would you do such a thing?
Add an HG cuff title to your jacket then cover it up with an SS smock so you look like an SS bod who wasn't there!

erm....because if you want to portray HG, that is what they wore...no more no less...
