[Sticky] After Action reports and Pictures

Thanks to all the organisers for their hard work. The props were excellent as usual. The battle for the bridge in the morning was a tough old slog for us jerries. We only had a brief foothold on the other side before wiped out. I think the arrival of Lovat's piper with the commandos finished us off. Congratulations to one of our gallant panzergrenadiers who was awarded the iron cross for repeatedly retrieving the wounded under heavy fire. Great touch!! By the early afternoon, the germans were beginning the blunt the allies advance. The charges by the Red Devils trying to take the pillbox were spectacular!! even if very costly. If they'd managed one more try they might have got it. The pillbox was nearly out of ammo and a lot of us their left flank were wounded and unable to return fire . The final allied objective of taking the artillery blockhouse was always going to be a very tough nut to crack. A thankless task but good try chaps.

Good to see some new faces (and old, of course), and hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

I forgot to mention the superb shot by the allied mortarman who managed to drop a mortar round straight inside our ammo dump, as the allied attack started after lunch!!! Well done.

Well here goes.
Outstanding turnout with spot on kit that would have made any real commanding officers proud to lead.
As usual from the organiser's outstanding props I loved the dropped parachutes & the Ruperts, the pillbox & the big gun barrel protruding out of the fort.
Some good bits for me were advancing to join the firefight at the bridge with the piper blasting out some noise that some people would call a tune & the loud navel barrage at the village but I was a bit close & after that all I could hear was humming in my ears.
What I thought was a good bit of action from me was when I flanked the German position on top of the hill killing the occupants with 2 grenades only to be told it was their respown
My rant is that most of the allied objectives had restrictions (narrow corridors) so the Germans had less area to cover & the big one that stuck out to me was the fort.
The barb wire & the the narrow pathways coupled with the scenario was too much for the allieds to overrun the fort,they could only attack from 1 position due to where the German respown was & the only reason we did get in to the fort was becouse the Germans respown was closed
I'm not putting the organiser's or any other organisation down but we can all learn from the days mistakes & if it wasn't for the organisers or others taking the time to organise these events we wouldn't know the Ww2 community in which we all enjoy so with that said BIG UP TO THE OUTSTANDING TURNOUT OF PLAYERS,KIT AND MOST OF ALL THE ORGANISERS.

Thanks to all the organisers for the putting together a great day. The set dressing and props looked the bees knees as did all the players. Great to play Brit Para, cheers to all in squad 2 and thanks to Graham for being our CO for the day.
Highlight for me was hearing the bagpipes and then seeing the Commandos appear over the ridge to save our bacon at the bridge which I think we only just held on to. Well done the germans who put in some very spirited attacks across the bridge in the morning, hope they enjoyed the afternoon as we battled up the road to the bunker between the minefields.

As another Brit para. The first objective in the morning was epic.
Storming the village and then “holding until relieved” was fantastic fun and just when things started getting a bit sporty “can you hear bagpipes?!”

Arnhem battle weekender next ? please

Thanks again for a well organized event, easy to move around site, no hills to climb,enjoyed it and managed to make it well into the afternoon, cheers to all for making it a great day.

That was really good fun and the timing of the British Commandos arriving at Pegasus Bridge was impeccable. I've not played at Combat South for years and I really enjoyed the site and thought the game made very good use of the layout. A huge thumbs up to Gordon for the radios which worked really well all day, even if some of us accidentally managed to pull the microphone able out

Great to catch up with people and enjoyed the social (once the rain had stopped). Many thanks to the organisers. Just a few photos:
