Hi,
I was at the IWM on Monday and, in the section on the war in the Mediterranean, I saw a Polish Mk2 helmet with a yellow looking painted Polish eagle insignia. (Apologies for the picture quality, it was through glass in a dark museum with a crappy camera phone.)
I've seen similar on airborne helmets but does anyone know if it was common to have this insignia on Mk2 helmets?
Cheers
Ranj
Yes it was common, though at the specific time of Monte Cassino it was removed along with other Polish insignia.
On a few originals you can see where there are older eagles that have been painted over, for various reasons, before being repainted again.
That one is a nice eagle though, many are a lot rougher.
It is the same as my ersatz para helmet I got from the Angels sale (oh lordy was it used in 'A Bridge Too Far'). Its very faded, so now here's the question - do I repaint it or do I leave it?

A slight aside. Can I wear my Rogatywka with my denims?

Could have been worn in 'The Eagle Has Landed' !
"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."
Indeed it could!
