Third application? WTF? I only ever do one! What are you doing?
I don't want my webbing to be caked, crusty and dry so I am using thin applications and making sure the colour goes into the webbing rather than on top of it - I want it to look like used kit not parade kit! (So I certainly didn't polish the brass!!)
Er... I don't cake it... I get a single even coat using bog all blanco.
Last night, I did L-straps, small pack and gaiters with a piece of blanco about the size of maybe 3 peas?
Were they petit pois size or marrowfat? 
We shall compare on Sunday!

And would probably make better Blanco than trying to use 60 year old Blanco blocks!!

There you go then - the recipe for Blanco was lost years ago, we may have stumbled on the answer.
The blanco should be of milkk consistnacy with the water and powder.
Slap it all on should be catachan green (ithink thats the colour the new GW olive green shade) when its dry brush it off. Other wise it goes streaky and blothcy.

Perhaps I sould have switched to watered down emulsion paint like the reenactors are now doing - 60 years old Blanco must have deteriorated. Got mine from the tank museum in Devon, he had quite a lot at

Brushing it off should take a while and result in clouds of smoke , i used the brush attachment on my hoover .. worked wonders.

I do mine a totally different way
#1 take webbing piece. soak in warm water for a few mins
#2 sprinkle blanco finely on to the webbing. (You don't need much!)
#3 brush it in to an even covering (I use an an used shoe polish brush)
#4 leave webbing to dry.
No need to brush off as you'll have put just the right amount on and managed to brush it well into the webbing.
I find it works so much better than painting... that was a right arse!

G & Y - I'm not caking it on so there isn't any excess to brush off which is probably why it's taking three coats (and I'm using a toothbrush - I need to think bigger!!). Meh - stick me on a charge, see if I care.
