Right guys this is very very ealry days but Evo and I shall be hosting a game next summer at Phoenix Woodland, ideally early May.
Putting tis up now as it would be great if you guys could bear me in mind so as not to clash.
I've not been able to ask Yith if he wants to be in wiht me on this one but i'm assuming he might not cos of the loaction.
Premise:
1 day 'film sim' re-enactment battle - limited numbers
Location: phoenix woodland near notts.
Date: May 2008
Sides:
15 South Staffords
15 Heer mediteraian garrison (interchangable wiht Itlaian inf if anyone is mad enough to want to do it.)
The day wil consist of four to six 'games' or 'engagements' with a narrative explained to players to link the games rather than continuous battle/regen.
Initial Scenarios:
Battle one: Allies land scattered and regroup while atmepting to avoid Axis detection. Axis offense
Battle two: Allies try to locate and destroy german coastal gun prevetnting seaborne landing. Allies Offence
Battle three: Axis hold ponte grande - syracuse road and bridge approach, allies atempt to wrest control. Allies Offence.
Battle four: Axis counter attack on the allies at the bridge who must hold until the armour arrives.
Essentially not unlike a mini arnhme but then again the real battle had similar objectives. The beauty of it is that the real battle was only around 70 staffords so its nice and small scale rathet than trying to represent divisions with ten guys.
Props: Itlalian road signs, german military signs, minefield signs, telescopic 'coastal gun' (evos on that)

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
We need a calender of events on the open forum, with possible and definates dates for all the game yours, ours and others.
BTW We ran the bulge as a series of three games, no reason why that format wouldn't work well here esp with smaller numbers .
Sounds interesting... ![]()
Would have thought this may work better at F&O... but thats always going to be an argument from me! ![]()
Really want you on board Rich
F&O is an option but having been aorund southern italy in the past the terrain at PW is ideal.
I want to use the stone bunker as a coastla emplacement and the path to baxters bunker as the ponte grande bridge road, phoenixs 'mortar pits' area is also ideal.
I just think the place looks right and is nice and 'mountainous' giving you that feeling that you are sclaing cliffs to destory guns etc.
I'm not adverse to F&O but the triaing day didnt make it feel right for this battle to me, i think its more of a 'germany' site IMHO.
I've organised a mates stag do at PW next sat (im not sure if i'll be fit to play but i'll be on the sidelines at least) so i'm going to take some pics of ideas for bits.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I think my main concern is the size of the site... I just can't see any sort of sneaking around being possible there...
Trying to locate a coastal gun will be piss easy... etc...
Trying to regroup whilst avoiding axis will be impossible..
15 a side though, plenty of room to sneak about.
I mean they will know roughly where it is it will be a case of attacking it and destorying it.
I intend to put up other objectives like an axis signals camp that needs knocking out before the gun can be hit etc.
Also the allies will have to locate their explosives before they can tackle it.
you up for it then Rich?

Hmmm problem is you can probably cover most of the site with 15 people... You can see everything.
Now admittedly over near baxter's bunker thats less of a problem... but the other end is so visible its unreal.
As is southern italy, its mainly shale and scrub.
Having walked the foothills around casino, and travelled the souh coast the terrain is perfect , honest...
Rocky, open, scrubby...

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I'm just thinking from the practicality of the scenarios you've mentioned there...
I'll have a look next week.
Haivng played there with 30 - 40 a side n the past there has always been plenty of scope for snaeking about and bear in mind that most games wont be re-gens so attrition will thin out forces even more.

Problem I see is that with a load of people randomly placed around the site, there's not going to be much chance for them to sneakily meet up... for that you really need a big site... one with plenty of cover as well... or as soon as they move they'll be spotted by the enemy and jumped on.
I can 100% see what you mean about F&O and woodland not being very italian... however I do think Phoenix would have to be a lot bigger to make this work.
Oh i intended for them to be seen, its more like 'fight your way off the drop zone to a rally point'
if youcan do it without being seen so much the better.
See your point about the size of the site thugh, hence 15 a side.
You can easily lose your self ther ewith 20 a side, i did a private hire dat for GW once with about 45 of us there and in summer there is enough cover.
If we can find a more suitable nearby site i'm totally up for being convinced, i just dont think F&O is it....
F&O *is* however crying out to do a 'pushing into germany' type game.
Perhaps a later PBI game focussing on line inf for once after we get peopel excited with paras!

Well if you'd said that to start with! But thats not what you said!
Okay... spend some more time on it, and keep me posted.
It has merit...
Ealry days yet, its eight months away!
I'll have a bette ridea after i've doen a site recce on the 8th

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Right
Spoken to Dave Grogan and scouted out the site.
As i thought its ideal and they have done a recent rebuild so its even better.
Whats more the on site shop is *brilliant* and prices are competetive too.
Spoke to Dave about the op husky game and hes keen to host it, we've agreed it will be in May, i've yet to decide whihc weekend but towards the end of may is more likely.
So once I've publically left CIA after Wotan i'll get interest going
Ideally i'm capping this one at 40 places as well.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Looking forward to it Gadge!

Yep sound , get that date slapped on the calender ! We can rejig the forum after Wotan , but it might be worth thinking if you'd like some open or hidden forum space for planning, advertsing booking etc.
