As the sven hassle thread ended up being a discussion of planning can we put any ideas for game swe might have here.

I've 2

Dec 07 - 'The Eagle Strikes' (or some such tosh)

German Commando raid on a UK fighter commando or radar station.

Limited numbrs say 30.

Reason for event: Gives players chnce to use brit kit as the garrison troops, gives players a chance to see UCAP who missed the boat for Wotan.
I would suggest we could make this very sub plot heavy aking to a murdermystery weekend,

Each player signs up for 'role' ad is given their own agendas, likes and dislikes

E.g. Sgt Smith - You have a hatred for Lt. Roberts and will attemt to subvert his orders whenever possible.

or lab technician Jones - You are secretly working for the abwher and must attempt to pass this message on to a German soldier without being lkilled at some point during the adventure

etc etc.

second game:

May 08 at eithe rF&O or ideally PW.

Italy. three choices here:

Gustav line )stone bunker at PW is ideal and it allows us to have everybody fights everybody.

Cassino - need a big stone building on site for this PW have one on the other fields, poles and brits vs axis. Good summer game with everyone in shirt sleeves and denims.

Operation Huskey - South Staffords make the first landing in occupied europe to seize ponte grande bridge
Advantage is that we can re-use brit airborne outfits and most folk ned is a new cap badge. German defender can be amix of heer ss and italian.
Downside is it requires a bridge type are as did arnhem.
Again PW has a stone bridge on the back game area.

Like both ideas, not sure about going back ot UCAP though, perhaps this Cornish place Dave mentioned.?
An Italian game is deffo required next year though . :!: :!: :!:

I'd personally like a Bulge for Xmas , as it's my pet battle but can live without

Other than that, doing the suggested E&E / One of our bombers is missing job up in North Wales's favourite 700 acres, although appreciate if some / all of you don't want to go back there

and carried over ......

Micro event with an opportunity to put in lots of character, sub plot and 'roleplay' at one end and 'mass battle' at the other.

Agree!
The more i think about this, the more we should max ourselves at 40 players , I reckon we would have better games as a result . We ought ot keep stoking the market research thread as well, get them to tell us what they like !

I agree we could do bulge again, perhaps focus on one area rather than trying to fit three towns into one site, I'd love to help you do that game again but my main concern is light.

If we were rigidly to time table

first light is about 8.30 in dec
player son site for 9 (yeah right)
Brief at 9.30
game on about 10.30
two hours play
lunch til 1.30
two hours play
last light at 3.30

We get four hours safe game time in.

Packing up at F&0 at 3.30 last time meant some areas of woodland were getting pretty black and it was dark before we knew it.

Playing a site you kow well in the dark is hard enough, playing a new one is asking for someone to get lost or hurt. Perhaps a march game woudl be bulge?

I like your downed airman A& e game, like it a lot. if you want help with that more than willing

I've bene reading a but about germans vs partisans latley and some of the battles were pretty big (over 1000 partisands fighting en masse in operation rosselsprung against Tito) i think we could do a very good eastern front game at IED.

A german garrison at one ned and partisan village at the other, lot s of patrolling and counter patrolling rasing each other bases etc.

Good thing about this as well is it allows us to do a ostfront game with zero need to buy new kit but anyone wanting to use Russian kit has the option a nice lead in to perhaps Stalingrad at the end of the year (say dec 08)

Brainwave - never thought of doing a Partisan game . An Ostfront scenario with the opposition in civvies ! Nice one .

Re the Bulge, yep it would have ot be pretty simplistic, more along the lines of Saints and Soldiers perhaps . No big rush to sort it yet , and as you say the daylight works against us. If we did it again we'd have ot keep it simpler I think.

RE: ostfront/partisan game.

Well we know we'll have enough germans.

Russian forces will be a doddle to do.

30 x 'partisan' = civvy clothes with a the odd bit of russian or german military kit (i've seen photos partisans in black clothes with mp40 pouches and german webbing ) ala resistance but more armed.

Anyone with russian kit, therre are few as i saw 2 at close actions game can come in that as red army stragglers or NKVD.

A couple of commisars per side (perhaps the organisers)

Minimum kit would be easy if its a wnter game, overcoat and wllies or jack boots or low boots and high puttees.

its doable and gives us a slow start to building up some 'russian' player base if we wanted to do Stalingrad six months down the line.

Becasue you *know* if we announced a prippet marshes game that at least five players would jut go out and buy russian loadouts wihtout any prompting.

Probably, I'd rather keep the Russian load outs as bog simple for now . Other than Stalingrad , there's not many others I'd rush ot do . Plus people like ot identify with their impressions, I suspect not many would work up enthusiam for the 999th Guards regiment in the same was as the 82nd Airborne. The lack of PPH doesn't help with it either

Partisans though , free liscence there !

I found out the other day that the Russian army is still issuing reservists with wwii camo uniforms, should be dirt cheap to get hold of if we can find a source.

To be honest I can't really see much desire to do Russian... I know the whole concept is leaving me cold at the moment.

Me neither personally, I think it could be a bit like Nam games where all the Germans will be up for it and the Russians /Slopes are always in short supply .
That said , we could weight the game in some way to encourage people, and as Gadge says, give an airsofter a chance ot spend money .

Yeah but i bet it will be a hit with our players.

Look at the interest that sprung up at the thought of a Stalingrad game?

I can appreciate what y9ou're saying Rich as i've no interest in American stuff but i'll still be helping out with a US vs Germans game if we do one.

I'd even if it was needed play/get kit for the US (shudder) if it was a good game plan/idea.

We cant get the UK in every game can we?

Yup... I know what your saying Gadge... its partially just me to be honest... I really have no interest outside UK stuff right now... heh...

I am interested in Russian most of all of the other nationalities... but I know I don't want to even get a looks like uniform as I can see that I'll not be happy unless its perfect. To be honest it then seems like a lot of money. I am supposed to be saving not spending... lol!

So its for personal reasons... but probably personal reasons that others also have.

Look at it this way, within reason we can *create* a player base.

We did for Arnhem

Given a strong enough scenario and archetypes, given reasonable access to uniform and given the right location/promotion we can probably make any of the battles we want happen.

If we found a lovely beach and dense woodland next to it, a cheap source of khaki uniforms and OD fatigues we could probably convince fol to do IWO JIMA or similar.

Before Arnhem there were three uk airborne players. Bit of spin and we ended up with twenty.

I think the imortant thing is scenarios or battles that folk can identify with.

Easier to buy into classic battles, harder to get people into unkowons.

For that reason although 'huskey' woudl be easier to do as we have uk airborne and axis already, i bet we'd have far more support for 'monte cassino' as everybody knows about that....

I dont thinki we'd have any problem getting buy in for Stalingrad Note i'm thinking of these as late 2008, ealry 2009 games.

I'm not suggesting we rush into this.

As far as classic battles go

Stalingrad is up there with the bulge, Arnhem and El Alamein.
