The postcode DA2 8AH also works well for the sat nav. If you take the wrong turn off the roundabout just before the entrance, you just drive along the dual carriageway along the side of the site and use the roundabout at the end to double back on yourself. (Done that twice now  )

If there's no German places left nearer the time I may, may ,think about doing that. I just like the look of the site and getting a chance to play somewhere so close to home. But I will still need to get some Russki kit in Extra fat .

Gordon is correct. Josh has kindly agreed to lend us his stock of Russkie kit and we have a boxful of Czech helmets as well, so whatever you need will probably be available. You don't need to own a full Soviet loadout to play Red Army for this event. Just make sure to let us know what you don't have when you book

i take it that brit boots and gaters wont be to bad for german as i cant stretch to jack boots, the gaters have a different strap is all and the boots are black not brown.

Can lend you some German gaiters Gavin, depending on foot size can lend you boots too! Black or brown boots are absolutely fine though. Lots of us Germans use DMS boots at times anyway!

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

This will be very interesting for me as my uncle is from Saky just down the coast and was a red army cadet. He was wounded by the Germans, whilst trying to get onto an airfield and hidden from them by his babushka in the coal cellar. Ooooh I said to him were you there to do some sabotage? Er..... No He said, i was trying to nick petrol to sell on the black Market!

On another unrelated note, I've just found my old trunk upstairs. It may be of interest to you Martin as it's stencilled with an officers name from the 1st Beds and Herts bound for Bombay. I wonder if I can trace him?

The 5th B&H sailed for Bombay in 1940, then went on to Singapore where they were soundly thrashed by the Japs and spent the rest of the war in Changi jail, apart from a small party of officers who escaped by sea to Sumatra and then back to Bombay courtesy of the Australian Navy. What name is on the trunk?

It's a bit hard to read - a lieutenant something - I'll have a look tonight. It still has the paper stickers saying 'not needed on board' on it which I assume means it would have been put in the hold. Very sturdy thing with lead? lining. I'll try nd take some pics. It definitely says the 1st beds & Herts so maybe it's a prewar trip?

1st Bn. were part of 14th Brigade of Wingate's Chindits AKA Special Force AKA 3rd Indian Division, so sailing to Bombay would be right.

Fremsley don't forget to clear out some of your old banners, this is now considered crass and probably capitalist behaviour. Meggles are fine because Russians love their meggles but loads of banners is so last year!

Having got a tad chilly camping at Piddington last weekend, I was just wondering what the 'in building' camping is going to be like at the Sandpit in February.

Do the buildings have concrete floors? windows with glass in? a roof??

Just trying to plan how much ground insulation to bring, and will we be able to use hexi/spirit/gas stoves inside?

Cheers
Martin
