My money is on a Mauser Gewehr 98,various manufacturers experimented with an extended 10,20 and 25 round "trench" magazine ,not a success because the spring pressure caused jams and was hard to load, stock and action both look right for it.

Thats was my first thought too Sandy as the the stock and bolt look right, but the magazine is totally different and is curved and not straight :?

So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

I think it must be the 98, but with a different version of the long mag. I'm pretty sure it's not the other things suggested.

ive got a book somewhere, with photos of partisans who modified a g k98 to take a 15 round mag,
its probably a conversion done locally in the field, hence the lack of reference

it looks like a mosin due to the bolt, if it can be done to a k98, then in theory it can be done to any bolt action.

I doubt anyone would really notice but we can lend you a Heer one anyway! :good:

I have an army one you can borrow :good:

TBH it's more to do with camo and runes than smaller details like buckles

I could fancy this but, the Russian kit I've got sounds like it wouldn't be appropriate! I've got (bare with me as I don't kbow their names) a politika cap and a czech "look-a-likey" helmet, a padded winter uniform, british ww1 putties, a leather belt (brown) with russian buckle and moisin pouches and a post war water bottle finished off with a german breadbag! Now, how far away am I? Also I would be struggling weapon wise as I only have a thompson or sten mk v to choose from! Thanks!

The kit sounds fine to me Johnny. Maybe just replace the belt with a single pronged buckle belt as the belt you have sounds postwar (only naval belts and officers had detatchable buckles before 1947) and the breadbag with a Russian gas mask bag.
Weapon wise I have several spare you're welcome to borrow (2xK98, Ppsh & M91/30 hopefully)

Edit: I've also got several spare belts.

OK, for the sake of practicality, we have decided to allow Thompsons - but only if you are unable to obtain / borrow a weapon from the list. Please make the effort to do that first.

you could easily do a minor cosmetic on a tommy to make it more ppsh like,a bit of cardboard tube perforated and painted black over the barrel and remove the foregrip, temporary and a little effort goes a long way with these things :good:

armoury
m1a1 Thompson,sten mk2,mp40,stg44,sterling,mk2 bren gun,lee Enfield no4 mk1,Mauser Kar98, Walther ppk,smith and Weston m10 and Mauser m712
Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.

Your a star matey! I'll take you up on the weapon and belt! I've a back pack too, the sack type (what a noob I sound) veshsummik or other!?! Suppose I could use that instead of my breadbag?
Again, thanks for your generous offer Lardass!

There was an AVT but they weren't produced until later I believe. The rifle in the pic it clearly a bolt action though as the bolt is up.

No problem. I should have a spare gas mask bag too if you want it? Even if its only my old Czech one. Veshmyshoks are decent for carrying extra kit but you can't get into them very quickly. Gas mask bags are very practical and were universally issued to all. Thats why I always recommend them as the first piece of field gear anyone going Red Army should get.

To be honest it's gonna be fine to just keep it as a "Lend Lease" Thompson.

Well worth doing a bit of remodelling on an M14 to make it look like a SVT40 though.

Barrie&Anne did a very simple mod to theirs for the CiA loop game which looked fantastic! I'm sure there must be some pics on the forum somewhere!?

And Gordon made a G41/43 lookalike, I believe.

If you squint a bit in poor light, a G41 is not hugely unlike a Garand....
