Not after a helmet for the game, what I'm looking to do is borrow a normal stahlhelm and a paratrooper helmet AFTER the game, so that I can make moulds of them to produce fibreglass replicas. It's only the shell that I'll take a mould of, so the insides of the helmets will not be touched.

The moulding process does not harm the helmet in any way and I will return the helmets at Operation Ariel, unmarked and undamaged. The idea is to produce low cost, safe, realistic helmets for those who don't want to fork out £60+ for a steel one, so we see more people wearing helmets at games.

I'll give a free fibreglass helmet to anyone who loans me their steel one. (Choose from Stahlhelm, fallschirmjager, Mk2 Tommy, Brit Airborne, or Russian).

Heide,

You can borrow mine if you want. I will need it for the Gulch and PBI game but not Aerial as I am Brit. I can pass it over after Gulch if someone can then pass it to you as I think you aren't coming to it? If you can bring it to St Lo just for the game you could keep it between if you still need it?

It is a replica stahlhelm, not sure which mark.

i've got 62, 66 and 68 size lids, if you wanted to offer alternate sizes?

The 62's practically child sized (it's got a 55cm liner!) but the other two are more usable.

i do find the 66 shell 'suits' me the best at a size 59 head, the bigger lid tends to look like a chamberpot, but i guess at least the largest lid size will fit everyone unless the elephant Man starts playing...

59 seems to be the most common size, so that's probably best. Once someone has a shell, they don't necessarily have to fit a repro liner anyway, they can use foam to keep the costs down. The hope is to offer people the chance to have an authentic looking helmet for less than £20 all in (£10 for the shell and certainly less than £10 for foam, a chinstrap and some paint, a bit more if they put a cover over it).

No worries, i don't need either for the foreseeable future, so you're welcome to borrow the 66 one, i'll bring it to St Lo.

Thanks for all of the offers folks, you're very kind. "Donor" helmets sorted with Dieselmonkey and Che. Watch out for the fibreglass ones as soon as I can get the moulds sorted.

Thank god I was right about the date! To be honest, the viral meningitis has killed my short term memory, so I've been forgetting quite a lot lately!

Not sure really. I think it would be difficult for someone to fix a chinstrap to a fibreglass one, unless they fork out for a liner, which wouldn't make it a cost effective alternative.

Couldn't you do both the liner and the helmet in fibreglass? i.e. two parts...

The suspension bits are pretty much all available online.

I think the U.S liners might be a bit weedy to make a mould from without breaking the liner trying to get it out. I suppose if enough people wanted U.S helmets, it would be viable to at least make shells. We sell the helmets at "cost" but making the moulds is labour intensive and it costs us money to make them.

Understand where you're coming from mate, especially when the steel only costs £25.

Much more cost effective doing German and Brit ones when they're in excess of £60-£100

True Matt, very true. We also plan on doing Russian ones as well, the mould is done for that already.
