Now, a lot of people think tracer units on ww2 guns look naff, which is quite true.
BUT in the darkness of the tunnels they are hardly seen, and they will look bloody good.
Ive been testing tracer units for night games on my site, and ill have 3 availible to loan out for free at the fuhrer game, on a "bend it mend it" basis.
(i may have more units by december, ill update if i do)
all you have to do is use tracer ammo. You can use your own
(or i will be able to provide it on the day at cost, about 10 to 12 quid per 2000/3000 depending on type/weight)

heres a piccy from my test last night, to show the effects (for those who have never seen it before)

Tracers at a nightgame: fcking awesome ;)

I still remember my first 'encounter' with Tracers used by our German enemies at a D-Day skirm in Normandie. At 04:00/05:00am we had to retrieve our ammo stowed away in dropcontainers.

Oh boy we almost shit in our pants (hey, it's still airsoft ofcourse...) when the Germans opened up on us with their MG's and tracers. There was one hell of a fight and those tracers were totally unexpected. Makeing the fight even better ;)

We also used a couple of units on our own night skirm last year; the only issue with tracers is, they work both ways 8)

tracer ammo is basically glow in the dark bb's,the tracer unit is usually a mock silencer with a light source in it to energise the glowing bb's,there are magazines that will do the same job and even hop units with built in tracer unit.

the hop unit and magazine types work, but not as well as the silencer type.
hop and mag units have l.e.d.s to light the bb
the silencer type have a flash bulb that lights the bb a lot brighter, and makes it easier to see from the side.

you see tracers going away and coming in, but to see them in flight from the side is harder, and the silencer type light them better (but look less realistic on ww2 guns) but the tunnels are pitch black in places (and loww light everywhere else) , so the tracer unit wont stand out too much.

should also mention that those photo's were time delayed, you dont actually see multiple laser lines but it actually looks like real tracer fire all be it green or red etc.

If you do a 100% tracer load it looks a lot like laser. :D :D
The TM tracer unit fits directly onto the front of one of the Chinese MP40 or MP44. I cant remember which, I'll go check.

Anyone know if the current TM tracer unit fits the adaptor you used to get in the TM Thompson box?

For economy and realism I think I'd mix tracer ammo with standard - perhaps a ratio of 1:10

but look less realistic on ww2 guns

That really depends on the gun ofcourse.

When you are using a silence sten, where the silencer is the tracer-unit. Then it's ofcourse very realistic.

And, if it's possible to mount a tracer unit on a AGM MP40 or STG44, I would really like to know! ;)

How do the tracer units fit on the AGM Sten mk2, as the thread is internal, and do they match the diameter of the barrel shroud so that it appears continuous ?

No idea. I was more talking about the cosmetic part of it. Not how it technically really would or can work-out ;)

Probably best to be using a 'standard' 4:1 or even 3:1 load, unless you're going to hand load each round ??

If firing short bursts 10:1 will likely give no tracer on some bursts - 3:1 should average 2-3 tracer per 10 rounds fired, if randomly loaded with a speed-loader.

I'll be using a 3:1 tracer load if I can find out how to attach a tracer unit to the Sten ?!? :banghead:

The TM unit with its 14mm -ve thread fits straight onto the AGM Stg44 and needs a 14mm- to 14mm+ adaptor to fit the AGM Mp40.
As posted elsewhere, in Jokers thread by No1_sonuk, the AGM Sten has a 12mm+ internal thread.
The TM Thompson comes with an adaptor, I wish I knew where mine is, what size is that?
I think only the old style plastic TM unit comes with the adaptor kit? My alu version came with none.
The G&G tracer, longer than the TM, also has a -ve 14mm thread.
Same thread for the Madbull unit. There is a unit from B-T, looks like a TM copy but cheaper.
Firesupport seems to have stocks of all these types and tracer bb in .20 and .25g.

Thanks poacher, my china made units are all -14mm thread
Tinys marui unit has the kit, china made dont.

Also the thread on the china made is a different pitch, its a bit loose going on, but one you are up against the end of the barrel they tighten up ok,

Not sure how to do a sten gun if its 12mm maybe make a unit to suit

I used a TM copy silencer tracer unit on my MP40 with a +/-14mm adapter at the Anarchy game at the Tunnels, and it was awesome in the really dark sections, it does give your position away, but if you keep on the move its great, I will definitely be taking it again :good:

ive found in the tunnels, the very act of firing of an AEG means massive volumes of return fire anyway (if anyones there) , so giving the position away dosnt count :D
