That might be an epic fail if you blow me up, save your turnips for your enemy not your friend.
No one else considers it odd that a cross between Chomley and a Muppet is exciting warm feeling below the waist?
C'mon, he is called Mr Slippy Fist! We can only but expect such deviation...

I think it possible that both sides want to be Hess's friend ? It's not a case of both sides are out to kill CW, otherwise the event would be over in a hour or so ?
oh no my friend , you mis understand me...im not hunting him to kill him... i wanna put him in a pot with some fine veggies and eat his bones.
you see we only like local people around these parts.. local people! erm, so i guess yes i do wanna kill him , but very slowly on a heat af around 25 degrees for about 12 hours , or gas mark 5. Lovely jubbly

Interesting scenario because there will be factions that want to kill Horn/Hess and factions that want to 'work with him'/keep him alive on both sides
The Brits may want to keep him alive because :
* They have been ordered to by High Command (either to provide info or by way of a perceived bargaining chip)
* They can see for themselves that there may be a genuine chance for a peaceful settlement
* Possibly even that they just can't bring themselves to kill anybody 'close up' when the time comes (HG were often civvies after all, all be it civvies under great stress and strain, and afeared for their very existence)
The Brits may want to kill Hess/Horn because :
* He was 'one of them b****y, murdering Naz-zis' - the public were/are trained to hate the 'enemy' without question, to drive the war effort
* They were afraid, and would just shoot on site - many examples of Polish pilots etc being shot by HG
* They, as 'volunteers', may not be experienced in warfare but have a 'tally ho, lets see off the Bosch' former army officer, who wants to grab some glory whilst he's got the chance (although that may also apply to the 'keep him alive' scenario)
The Germans have two factions (Heer & SS) involved, either or both of which could want him dead :
* To stop him talking either because he IS Hess and he knows too much
* Because he ISN'T Hess and they want to give credence to any false info/documentation already found/given
* To make an example of him, for disloyalty to the Fuhrer and Fatherland
The Germans also could want him alive :
* Through 'loyalty' to him
* As he may give a chance for a peaceful settlement
* To return him to Germany and make an example of him
There could also be the possibility that Hess was/is trying to contact German 'sympathisers', and/or German 'Sleepers'/spies, other than those stated. They, in turn, may/may not have involvement in the British forces ? 5th columnist anyone ?
There are more variations and depths to those ideas, but for what is a simple idea on the surface, it could be one of the most complex scenarios played out, when all the prejudices, fears, emotions and outside influences are put into the mix.
It may well be that 'enemies' are working towards common goals, and 'allies' are working against each other
NB : I'm not trying to second guess the organisers with any of the above or spoil any 'surprises', just relishing/discussing the prospect of what could be a very intense, in-depth action

There are no circumstances where the Germans would want to kill Hess - they are merely soldiers carrying out orders, their brief is to return him to Germany. However, the reason for returning him to Germany may be different for the FJ & SS - was this an official mission sanctioned by Hitler or was it a spot of freelancing on behalf of Hess? Could be one or the other - the FJ & SS may have different stories told them. Is Hess a traitor or a hero? Has Goering sent the FJ to recover Hess because he stole a plane or because they provided it and things went wrong over Scotland? Has Hitler sent the trusted SS to ensure Hess' safe return knowing as Goering's isn't in on the high level attempted negotiation. Would the SS have an ulterior motive for leaving the FJ behind, destroyed by 'the British forces' - are there brownie points to be had for being the ones to recover the prize?
History tells us that Hess wasn't shot by Britain's defenders - quite the opposite. He was treated well throughout, as well he might be. Was this a top secret mission arranged by Britain's and Germany's elite? Has the planned meeting with the Polish leader General Sikorski gone horribly wrong now Hess' landing is public? Can Hess be squirrelled away to get things back on schedule or do the authorities abandon plans and go public with a 'madman' story. Do the British authorities even know what is going on as the mission might have been planned by those even higher than elected members of parliament - the Royal family and their associated higher echelon of upper classes. Whatever the case, friend or foe, Hess is the most valuable asset ever to arrive on British soil since the start of the war and must be guarded and protected as if they were the crown jewels. But there a real danger, not only to the 'asset' but to men, women and children of the area - the terror of crack German troops setting foot on British soil. And the subsequent chaos and panic that would ensue should it get to the papers. Questions would be asked of the capability of Britain's forces to prevent attack and repercussions would rumble through Government as heads roll and Britain's steadfastness takes a knock.
Whatever the reason for Hess stepping foot on British soil it should be clear that Hess is a valuable prize to both German and British troops. If there is punishment to be metered out it won't be done by mere soldiers - who would likely face the ultimate punishment should they act on their own feelings - for they have NO idea of what is and isn't going on politically.
Hess is Germany's Deputy Fuhrer and should be treated as such, a very high ranking officer and politician. The way he is treated will have great bearing on the cooperation given to them - if he feels that his mission is being obstructed then he will make life difficult for his British captors, he may decide to attempt a return to Germany knowing his fellow countrymen are trying to rescue him. He may meet up with his troops before he is even discovered by locals and abandon attempts to contact the Duke and hope to be whisked back to Germany.
