Hi! Will the camping be period or non-period tents?

Hi!!

Non-period for this one. We'll be running is as a 'long day' game and will run from 11am into the evening with play after dark.

We're giving the people the option to stay on site and have a CiA Social, even though some people who live locally may decide they want to go home. As we won't be camping 'in-game' there's no need for period tents.

Of course, if anyone wants to do a bit of camping with guns and set up a period camping area in the game zone that's absolutely fine, it's just that it won't be compulsory. We'll be asking people to put up tents near to the car parking area for convenience.

hello, as i have almost finished my RSI italian impression, would that be permissable for the axis side? if not no worries will go as german.

cheers
il duce

No problem with that at all. This is a 'what if' scenario based around an historical context. The idea is that a group of axis players are holed up behind enemy lines and a group of multinational Allies are tasked to seek them out.

We didn't include Italian in the original booking thread as we weren't aware of anyone with that impression. Will amend now.

For the record we're trying to be as inclusive as possible on this event. We've run quite a few restrictive events recently so though it would be nice to broaden the spectrum a little and perhaps get a few more people in who are new to CiA.

What is the site like for vehicles? suitable for NON 4x4 or 2x3 vehicles? firm firetracks or muddy foot deep rutted quagmire paths?

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

There is a track at the top of the site's big hill which is well drained but grassy.

We're still trying to work out how we could use vehicles in game, as they'd be limited to a looped road, so any more than one vehicle could cause problems.

We'll announce more once we've clarified it.

Does 'ground based troops' rule out US Airborne?

US Airborne are ground based troops, so that's fine. Non ground based are Aircrew and naval crew.

if we are going to be "heavily armed" and "dug in" germans then i have a maxim machine gun which works quite well in this context. its full metal and not very portable, fires at 330fps. ok to bring it along?

sounds great . If we get forced out of our positions we can bung in it the back of one of the vehicles and have a 1940's style drive by .

I don't think so.

During the war did each side have a pre-battle meetup and decide on who was bringing what?

The volturno line was a defensive line that had to be taken by force........... a bunch of en-placed MG's seems to describe quite nicely what a defensive line is so more the merrier .

The US lot have 30 cals too you know .

Was hoping to go as british airborne, but think they weren't around in this action!? However, could go commando (oooerr missus)! 3 commando were involved weren't they? I know this games a bit more relaxed re kit but thought I'd ask!

The operation began with a Commando raid, so, go for it if you want John. However, Brit airborne is ok for this too, as we're trying to be a bit more inclusive, to get players without multiple loadouts involved.

Since our recent reshuffle most of our games will be more relaxed in terms of kit :good: . Plenty of good kit out there gathering dust unused, we are hoping we can give it excuses to get out and dirty !

We have at least 3 of the British contingent (me, John Birchett and Roland who hasn't been to a CiA event yet) who can do commando, regular infantry or airborne - we are easy so if we want to present a uniform look we probably can. I'm not desperate to badge kit up properly, but we can at least align on the major points. Lets face it, British kit isn't that sophisticated. Chose Denison or battledress and pick a hat style and colour. Beyond that it's stitch counting in my book (JOKE !!!!!!).
