Does anyone have any real or reenactment photos of soldiers wearing M43 fatigues? I'm particularly looking for 29th ID photos, but any will do.

I'm looking to get my impression right, but SOF recently put up the cost of their M37 wool trousers to

Try Replicators, I'm not sure what their US kit is like but I've had some of their British kit and it's pretty good, best of all it's made to measure. http://www.replicaters.com/ww2usarmyuniforms.html

No ebay at work :( but thanks a bunch, Choms - I'll check it when I get home.

I'll check replicators now, Pete, thanks.

My 37 mustards from SOF weren't that good, the crotch tore out when i knelt down to shoot. Don't think the stitching was too clever!

Also try giving Platoon in Bury a call, they have good stuff cheaper than SOF usually.

At our place they've blocked http://www.ebay.co.uk and http://www.ebay.com but we've found that we can get round this by going to the Australian site http://www.ebay.com.au

That replicaters site is very good, how long did you have to wait for your stuff to come in, Pete?

EDIT: eBay.au worked! :D

Kavster,

Replicaters can vary from 3 months to 2 weeks.

If you want something in time for Wotan then I suggest you get it order asap to be safe.

Jerry Lee at What Price Glory has been closing out his M43 Uniforms for a while now. Might not have your sizes left though.

Cheers, much the same as the SOF price, but if the quality was better I might be tempted.

By the way, although the title of the thread is M43, I think I must have meant HBT!! Forgive me, I was a Soviet military expert...

Hehe, thought so... I'm desperate for the right look. Did they all wear the unit crest painted on the helmet?

When I ordered mine I said that I wanted it for an event in 4 weeks time and it arrived with over a week to spare :D , so I would recommend that you if you order from them make sure they know when you want it for.

Heh... that doesn't always work. My re-enactment group has had plenty of orders with him and many have taken longer than they should.

My hint "Keep hassling..."

Unit insignia on helmets did not feature widely during the war. Some units had them, most didn't. Why give the enemy something to aim at ;)

They were very common before the war, and after VE-day you see them more and more in photos.

I have seen pics where they didn't sew the patches on fully, just a cross-stitch in each corner, so that if they needed to remove the patch quickly they could do.

Patches and unit markings sometimes had to be removed for "Secret Moves", and of course the patches had to be removed from dirty clothes and sewn back on fresh clothes every time, I can imagine some soldiers not having the motivation to do careful stitch work in the field....

Watch the movie Battleground, you'll see what I mean ;)
