Wonder if anyone can help me (silly question :) )

I'm just wondering what insignia/metal badge I'm supposed to wear on my overseas lid, for the 29th Infantry.

Google is not my friend this time... :(

What battalions and regiments did the 29th ID consist off and which one do you want to portray? Search for the Distinctive insignia of these regiments. Saunders Insignia usually has modern equivalents available.

This was the general composition of the 29th ID in 1942:
115th Infantry Regiment
116th Infantry Regiment
175th Infantry Regiment
29th Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized)
121st Engineer Combat Battalion
104th Medical Battalion

29th Division Artillery:
110th Field Artillery Battalion (105mm Howitzer)
111th Field Artillery Battalion (105mm Howitzer)
224th Field Artillery Battalion (105mm Howitzer)
227th Field Artillery Battalion (155mm Howitzer)

Special Troops:
729th Ordnance Light Maintenance Company
29th Quartermaster Company
29th Signal Company
Military Police Platoon
Headquarters Company
Band

I know that in the 2nd Armored the divisional insignia was sometimes worn by units that were not bigger then platoons strength like the divisional MPs, but this was late or after the war. Not sure if this was also done in the 29th.

Alternatively get a Infantry Branch of Servic disk and stick that on.

Thanks Mr Flibble, it was the 116th IR. I check Saunders first off.

There's quite a list of DI's on Ebay. Perhaps the ones you are looking for are on there as well, usually a bit cheaper then on Saunders.

This should help a bit

I see Saunders doesn't have them on offer, except 29th infantry division crests.
Ebay only yielded a single result and it wasn't a DI crest but a coin from Iraqi Freedom.
You might run into one or two at militaria fairs.

Cheers again. The 116th one I've seen before, but couldn't find to buy.

However, now I've seen that one for the 176th with the saltire on it... :D

EDIT: Saunders actually has the 116th IR metal crest, so I could get that. None for the 176th, just the cloth patch :(

Right, ordered my 116th metal badge from saunders. I take it regimental badges are worn on the overseas cap, where the big airborne circle patch thing would be for AI units?

Indeed, on the left side, 1.5 inch from the front edge.

And when wearing it, tilt the garrison cap to the right, only tankers wear it tilted to the left (something Patton thought up). ;)

I've got a growing number of DIs myself,

3x 17th Engineers, of WWII vintage to wear on my Class A and garrison cap,
2x 17th Engineers, post-war design. One is a rare brass edition I found at beltring.
3x 82nd Armored Reconnaisance, post-war design (silver instead of gold finish)
2x 142th Armored Signal Corps, WW2 vintage.

Looking to get some 41st Armored Infantry crests soon.
