I'm assuming these were "accquired" items like a lot of airborne equipment but I'm curious as to the colour of the rubber. Black, OD, Tan? I've seen them all but just wondering what everyone else uses.

My bad, I meant M1944 goggles. Just wondering if they were say all black in ww2 or if the other colours were later issue. I know they used them up until desert storm.
The ones the guy at the back has on.-

its a fantasy item. troopers didnt use 'em. in all of the books that i have on US paratroopers, the few pics of them were from Market garden only and then only a very few troopers had them.
reason people seem to think they were used? brothers in arms Hells highway. great game.. piss poor reference material

Ah, never actually played it but I'm going to go with the paratrooper equipment guide - If it looks handy grab it!
I had a read of the AI article but it was thin on the ground for info on the equipment that distinguished them from regular airborne troops. Nice pics tho!

Hi there saw this in a book allegedly by the UK expert on WW2 Airbourn kit Gary Howard? Summerizing what he says is. They were available to Paras and occasionally used by them. The lenses came in 4 colours Red Clear Light Green and Dark Green and were Made by Polaroid. Their intended manufacture was for Aircrew and Mountain troops.
Hope it helps
PS if you need any more info drop me a line this book is 200 pages long and is just about Americas Finest and pretty comprehensive-- attachment is not available --

Thanks! The set I bought has exactly the same "army goggles" picture on the box in the top right so fingers crossed I scored some originals or at least the same pattern!

Not exactly the same. The ones you have are close to the M1944/B-8 style, which is wrong.
What you want is the Polaroid 1021 type. Used by Airforce and Army they were very common in 1944/45.
Even then the goggles on the helmet game is rather silly. They really do mess up any camo effect you might have.

Heh I remember that with modern airsofting. It was the fashion to wear goggles on your helmet for that uber spec forces look. Thing is they reflect like crazy. So someone had the bright idea of making a camo cover for them. Yeah so that makes the whole thing worth it, right... heh.

If I were you raffles (and yes I have got some helmet goggles in my cupboard) I'd not bother with them. They were rarely used and are totally useless on the airsoft field...

It's odd how the B-8 got into circulation and use quite quickly. They are the airforce version. Not unusual to see them in use at all. The M1944 on the other hand are very rare during wartime.
No, I cant tell them apart in photos but you see them a lot on aircrew but hardly ever on infantry or even tankers who were issued goggles.
I guess the airforce guys kept them, perhaps trading their older 1021 to the infantry/airborne? Even if that's the case (though I doubt it, new for old exchange at the QM is more likely) you dont see many goggles on infantry or airborne.
I think it's what's called a re-enactorism?

I'd agree with Rich on this one. No need to buy all that kit, just get what you need and get to a WW2 event! (That's for all those who are worried about the need to get the 'perfect' look before attending a game!)

Those goggles weren't worn by Pathfinders, they were barely worn by Airborne at all. Don't take AI as gospel...especially that article.

Mine definately weren't as they have a '51 makers date! lol. Never mind I may use them for their intended purpose and keep dust out of my eyes.

Incidentally they are also not fit for purpose as airsofting goggles, I've heard that they shatter VERY easily.

God yes! They were described as "ballistic goggles" on one auction but they are basically .75 polycarbonate that's had around 60 years to go brittle. Looking at these with a hard stare would crack them. Wear these as eye protection and you're gonna have a bad day.
