Feck, I have just lost a good six months from my life expectancy.
A baptism of fire but all seems fine with my roll-back to Monday's data - sorry for the loss of two day's data - good job most of it was rubbish! ![]()

Apart from the bookings for CR - please check that you're still on the list and post accordingly .
So- well done CW for getting it up again
...erm...... perhaps not quite what I meant and
.... erm....... no comment about your age mate ![]()
Arghhh didn't notice this was inthe private bit , see I'm back to posting rubbish already ![]()
ah good stuff... at least we klnow that the backups do actually work! Always a concern of mine! Its good to have a test! ![]()
Test! It was a frigging nightmare. The phpBB restore doesn't work on big restores - had to use a third party uploader.
Please could you install an auto-backup module as a matter of urgency - we shouldn't have to rely on backing up manually 'when I remember'. There is a good one that backs up at whatever interval you like (daily seems ideal) to a directory within the public_html directory and so becomes a physical & visible chunk of data that can be further backed-up off-line.

cool... I didn't know they existed.
Do you have a name for this ideal module?
I saved the module at work - I might be calling at the studio tomorrow, if so I'll retrieve it.

Okay... I'm at Proteus tomorrow... but I will try and get it installed either Monday or Tuesday.
Hmmm, might have sorted this - I have set up a cron event for a daily db backup at 1.03am every day. I'll check tomorrow morning and see if it worked!

nice one... ![]()
Just make sure they don't overwrite the one that was taken beforehand. If they do and the server crashes during the backup then the backup will be screwed and you'll have none available at all!
The best way is to have a set of a few backup files used in a rolling sequence.
Right-oh - if I've configured it right they will be date stamped and sequential files with no automatic overwrites. I could set a 'delete after x days' switch but I'll leave that for now.

Thats cool... just need to watch how much disk space they take ![]()
No issue with space - I've got 3GB free on that domain name.
Auto back-up worked fine ...
The backups are found in:
/backups/dumps/localhost-comradesdb/
and manual backup can be done from
http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/backups/backupsmanager.cgi

Just to confirm, auto-backup is working sweet as a nut so bought the license.
Autoback up every morning at 1 am, sql file gets saved to directory noted above then zipped (currently 48Mb gz compressed to 5Mb).
As this only guards against db corruption not disk loss I manually download file to folder on a work computer so having a remote backup. This folder is automatically backed up once a week to a NAS with Raid 1 disk mirror.
So, a reasonably robust solution to database loss. At best a roll-back up to 24hrs previous, at worst up to 48hr previous and absolute pissing suicidal disaster scenario of a week previous.
Now then. Last forum outage was due, I'm told to a PHP problem. Having got so frustrated at not having access to the server root I have just rented a new server which will give me full control of the damn thing. Over the next few weeks I'll start migrating all my web sites over - WW2 will wait for a while, going to do my least favorite client's webbys first!
I'll keep you informed Richard...

sounds flash dave!
Nice one ![]()
