Might be worth doing so PDQ, you are breaking the law by admitting to manufacturing a RIF on an open forum . I know the risk might be small but I'd hate to see you become a test case.

I only mention it becaue I've got the same problem myself, I'm remaking my MP44 using replica bits from abroad, and have just gone through the UKARA registration in case I get pulled up over "manufacture".

yeah I hear ya fella, I have been thinking the same thing lately, just not really sure about the grey area of 'manufacture' regarding making parts for a gun you already own, and the question of 'is it manufacturing or customising. I cant see me finding the time to register in the near future so I think my only option is to not publicly post my progress unfortunately.

after some serious thought and the current situation please could you delete my 'g43' and 'fg42' threads. as I see it the law on 'manufacturing a rif' is a bit of a grey area and although I dont class what im doing as manufacturing as opposed to customising I fear some people will not see it the same way and could possibly get me into a bit of bother,which I could most certainly do without.it is a bit sad that it has come to this, and that I can not see myself getting registered in the near future, so I can not see any other alternative.

I'm disinclined to delete valuable material - there must be a way round this.
One option: we moved threads to Data Dump for the moment. When I have phpBB3 running over Christmas we have the option of changing poster's identities. Therefore we could restore the thread but with a registered member's name (say Guy)?

What's the law say about us handing over people's detail who've registered with us in the event of an investigation.

Same as any law - if asked I have to comply whether voluntarily or by court order, plenty of charges we (I) could be had on I'm sure!

If it is then he has the defence. Of course he has to prove that and his presence at several previous airsoft games is enough.

We don't check the validity of the information though, so really the IP address is the only firmly traceable information I suppose.

I'd suggest we don't fuck about changing the information to cover him in this case and we straight delete it off the site until he is registered. I'm sure there are aiding and abetting laws....

Rich - I have just written to Jay to see if he has a defence but AFAIK he isn't an airsofter. I'll confirm that shortly.

Stephen - I wasn't worried about aiding and abetting, I would quite happily defend myself in court on that score. The issue would more along the lines of withholding information, in which case I wouldn't wait for a summons - Jay ain't worth it, the fuzz can have everything they ask for!

Yep I agree 100%, although reckon being UKARA registered would give you a good defence without having to go through the problems of calling witnesses to being a bone fide skirmisher. I'm doing exactly that at the moment as I'm manufacturing a RIF at home , and am unlikley to be buying any new ones for a while .

If he can't get UKARA registered then he is not an skirmisher ergo he falls foul of the VCR as I saw it , and is openly proclaiming this .

Chommers , I also agree with HS, changing identities ot cover up his lack of defence is abetting AFAIK.

Hardly worth arguing the toss but 'if he can't get UKARA registered then he is not an skirmisher' isn't correct and isn't what the law says - however the point about UKARA registration being a good defence is well made. I have no need of UKARA membership myself (at the moment) but I'm tempted as a back up proof of why I have a garage full of guns, should the old bill come knocking (not that they would know what UKARA is of course ).

Re altering Jay's post name. I wasn't suggesting doing it to protect Jay but to maintain a source of information. Nothing to do with covering up - it's Jay's look out if he hasn't a defence, not ours!

Sorry I was being ambiguous, what I meant was if he wasn't able to qualify(ie 3 games) to get on UKARA then he probably isn't a skirmisher. And low and behold looking at his first post he claims he's not airsofted before ...so he's not a regular skirmisher

I've PM'd him and asked if he's a member of a reenactment group with PLI ashe could get a defence that way of course , but I suspect in reality he is more a collector , one of the loosing parties in the VCR nonsense.

Ah, no need for him to reply to my PM then, your detective work solves the problem. He has admitted he hasn't a defence as an airsofter. Looks like he is stuffed....

As there are quite a few threads on manufacturing RIFs on the forum, would it be worth putting up an announcement to ensure people are aware that they should be registered or at least have a firm defence?
