You are indeed the MySQL guru.

I'm looking at phpAdmin 2.8.2.4 on the new server and 2.5.2 on the old server and you have linked to 2.9.1.1 !!

I could see you had changed the config file but couldn't open the index.php file in a browser, yet that's the very link you gave me

Anyhoo, that's by the by as I haven't the faintest idea how to copy stuff back and forth so I shall leave that to the guru.

addendum, the admin I was looking at on the new server isn't located in the web site, it's part of the root s/w, so my confusion is partly cleared!!

It looks like any post with quotes (" or ') or pound sign (£) could be buggered up...

So that's LOTS of potential posts...

So, post links on here and I'll sort 'em...

Both done...

Note the first one needs someone to check it... I think some german characters are still appearing as question marks.

I don't know how you are doing this - genius!

The new db defaulted to utf8 unicode - I can't tell what the original was. I guess this is the root of the problem? Weird though as this is unicode so should display everything?

yeah, but character sets are wierd... it always seems to be trial and error to sort things out and I deal with this sort of shit all the time as part of my work.

Dave... all I'm doing is using cut-and-paste... lol
