Basically I'm arsing you about as I've been on both ends of the manual system.

From one side I've had to wait days before I could access a forum because of the admin being away... something we don't want to happen with our forums!

From the other side I've tried it myself and found that it achieved nothing and that spammers were not caught and still posted.

Hence my honest belief that its a dangerous waste of time.

Okay... I've added a new required field to the registration process

"Reason for Joining"

This must be filled in for the user to successfully register.

This will therefore stop most spam bots.

It will also mean that we can tell a real user from a spam user as we can view the value of this field in the Memberlist.

As I pointed out, we don't have a problem with bot spammers - we DO have a problem with manual spammers. You let three in on the 12th!!

But I suspect you got to them... good stuff...

I also have a few other mods up my sleeve... something perhaps to ban specific words? Something to make the links not worth their while as google will ignore them... etc...

Oh... and the new code was written on the 12th... so it won't have really come into effect until after then.

Nah, they just type in gibberish since it isn't qualified text.

So you can tell they're spammers!

BTW, I meant ban words in posts!

If you mean:

picturbikpi
Curt Weiss
vanseoling

Then they have no reason for joining listed and hence were registered before my new code was written.

Just out of interest has there been any spam registrations that anyone has deleted over the last few days? I've not seen any...
