Got my sten from paul at actionhobbies.
A nice gun indeed. Its an M14 gearbox and motor, no safety and auto only.
The hop is a simple allen bolt but seems ok. Mine chronoed at 335 fps and shoots well.
I am using KA mid caps with it.

Just stick in a decent 8.4v stick even though its a tight fit.
Picked up a sling from the Cosby show last weekend and woopy do.
I shall use it at my site on sunday and give it a full gameday.
Very Retro!!

I have just brought one of the agm stens as well since my viva sten caught on fire. I have to say that I am really impressed with it so far.

Skirmished with it today, performed well. Used KA midcaps, its accurate and a decent range, ideal for close/medium distances.
Hop works fine and keeps bb's on target.
A great piece of kit.

The front grip/vent.. thing wobbles quite a lot I've noticed, just one screw holds it on it seems, and it won't tighten properly... Not a critical issue though as it certainly doesn't seem like it's going to fall off.

I've used some heavy duty Loctite 638 on the hand guard, the retaining screw and the barrel threads. It all seems to be pretty solid now. All other screws I've used medium strength Loctite 243 to retain. I got (what looks like a repro with some original metalwork) sling off EBay for £4.99 including shipping and I've ordered a 2200mah 8.4V NiMh stick from eHobbyAsia. I got my Sten from Airsoft Armoury along with a box of King Arms mags so that was free shipping on that lot. All set to go as soon as I can get along to another skirmish.

Here's my five minute Sten video:-

Thanks for the vid. :good:

Is there something wrong with the mic, though? The sound trails off occasionally.

No it was more of a case of using a little digi camera and the in built mic. When you go fully onto YouTube I've put an apology about the audio in the info box.

That must be a KA trait - my Thompson ones need to be slapped a bit too.

That must be a KA trait - my Thompson ones need to be slapped a bit too.

The lip on the KA Tommy mags is a bit too large - skim this and they will fit much better. The KA MP40 mags are just a couple of mm off fitting easily into the magwell hence the need for a slap or lots of fiddly mods. Whilst it's quite nice to give the mags a realistic slap, I think mine are starting to come apart at the seams!

On the Sten from, just got a sling from eBay for £4 shipped - undated but who cares about that? I Just need DogGreen1 to get me my gun now :good:

Also bought a box of KA mids from Firesupport (slightly cheaper ;) ).

All I can say is WOW. I set the hop and after a few mags it was perfect.
Setting the hop is a bit fiddly to begin with as you have to rotate the magwell
to access the hop screw. Once set it does not move so you should not have to
adjust often (I hope).

Swings and roundabouts really, I was already getting free postage from AA so getting the KA mags from Firesupport with their postage on top I figured the difference wasn't great enough for me to bother.

I haven't used my Sten yet, but in line with what you said I've already been applying Loctite to all screws and carrying out a few other mods such as re-profiling the foresight to an inverted V as it should be and putting Deans connectors on. Regards the KA mags being tight I found that the dome head screw on the mag catch was too long and was bottoming out on the mag housing before the spring was fully compressed. I removed about thread turns off the end and that has helped, the KA mags are still tighter that the AGM mags but they don't need as firm a slap as they did. I also filed off the dome head on the mag catch screw then flattened it on a surface plate with fine abrasive paper so it now looks more like a rivet head and is more comfortable when pressed.

EDIT 19/09/2009:-

A couple of pictures showing the foresight and magazine release catch after modification and a little black Suncorite. Oh and a little work on the magazine housing with some letter & number stamps.

I think someone said it's for the bright orange cap required in some countries.

Hmmm, the barrel on those AGM ones looks too long to me. Compared to a real STEN [pic below], a R/S STEN's heatshield is near enough exactly half the length of the barrel, where-as the AGM barrel looks far longer in comparison to the heatshield. What does everyone else think?

I totally agree about the barrel length with the muzzle cap fitted, it looks just slightly too long with it in place. I'm toying with the idea of cutting the outside part of the muzzle cap off and simply fitted the threaded portion back into the muzzle until it is flush and then filling out any gaps with black milliput. The threaded portion has to be in place as it supports the inner barrel at the muzzle.

Ah, Forester told me he simply took the muzzle cap off, put an O ring on the inner barrel to keep it stationary and central within the outer barrel and then blacked up the now exposed end.

From Arnies

........."just an advice for you agm STEN users.. dont even think about using a sling without modification. the barrel shroud screw is way too small, and the internal body is aluminium made.. which means the first time you will wear your sten on your shoulder, the shroud will slightly rotate and extract the screw from the body. i've done it by hand on mine to see how strong it was, and the screw fell with almost no effort.

the solution is very simple :
remove the black paint on the body where the shroud seats, and polish inside the shroud too (with coarse grain paper, 100 is good). make the 2 surfaces clean and rough and apply araldite or any brand of epoxy glue. assemble, leave it for a day and solid as a rock "

Hi All,

Just got mine - can't wait to use it. Just a thought though - will those TOP MP40 hi-cap mags fit?
