I've seen pictures of whole Chinese regiments with these during the civil war, don't half look silly with hundreds of troops with them.
IIRC didn't churchill use one in the Boar war?
These GNBB do have a kick in them, but the mag is a bitch to reload in field
The Chinese thought they were gucci kit, even the copies. Several references to warlord bodyguards getting them issued as a status symbol. It was the Chinese that created the first full auto version, effectively making it a SMG or a proto-scorpion. Mauser was playing catch up when they created theirs. So on one hand, all mauser equipped Chinese unit appears strange, but no stranger than the all SMG armed platoons and companies in the 'shock/assualt' units of the Soviet army in its practice. Its a shame the Chinese warlord attitude was to hoard these 'elite' units rather than use them against the Japanese.
To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"
Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.
Resistance is fertile
you can cut out the wooden holster stock to accomadate the long mags... Ive had 2 i loved mine, but the mags all leaked they get up to 400fps on a warm day....... ouch so watch that MED you might want to keep an aeg handy for closer range work!!!! LOL
The boers used them a lot - I had a friend who had one from the boer war complete with wooded stock and leather holster for it....

i got this holster at ima-usa, but its maybe more appropriate for a partisan/resistance loadout not a heer/ss but with a stretch some dark corner of the eastern front?.. Its for the bolo so i had to use a bit of leather string to close the flap..
(oh and i got a short mag for my broomhandle, think it looks better that way)
The mags do have a tendency to leak from the base,it's caused by the rectangular rubber block they use as a seal, take the mag apart and make a slightly larger rubber block and the problem is solved. You can actually turn the power down too, unfortunately that also means you can turn it up.
hmmmm i might buy another one now!

It definately works,I have 4 mags that are still holding gas since the last time I used it in October.
You need to use a very sharp blade and cut slowly to ensure the rubber doesn't distort as you cut it,and obviously the rectangle shape has to be precise, and I used a leather punch to cut the central hole,it isn't pressure bearing so distortion isn't problem.Having used a bit of trial and error regarding sizing them I found about 1 mm oversize worked but still needed a liberal amount of silicone a bit of patience, swearing and steady pressure to refit them.Don't be tempted to beat the mag back together,If it wont quite go,leave it for a little while to let the rubber settle and then apply pressure again.
As I said its a little bit trial and error, between being large enough to provide a good seal, and small enough to go back together.
But beats the hell out of buying a new mag every time they start to leak, and they all seem to.
stupid question i know, but what source did you use the rubber from?
Hopefully not the soles off Assault boots
Just a bit of old rubber mat I had kicking around in my workshop that was pretty close to the right thickness.
