I've been searching for a possible project for converting an Ak47 to a ww2 sub machine gun, I think I've possibly found one now, the Davuvia 43 M, a Hungarian made weapon, used by them on the Russian front and was still in use into the 1950's numbers manufactured between 5 and 7 thousand.
Maybe using a sten mag, the only prob I can see at the moment is the gap between the mag and trigger guard might have to be shorter.

I doubt anyone who is not familiar with the original, will pick that up! Looks like a fun project to attempt.
What about a MAS38....
Or a dodgy MG34....
A bit like "Goldilocks and the three bears"...... Ooo! The Mas38 is too small said baby bear, oooo! The Mg 38 is too big said momma bear, Aaah the Davuvia 43M, just right! Said Papa bear.
I already have an Mg42, far too big for myself to drag around a skirmish site, strictly static in my use of said item.
The little French thing, for me anyway is just crappy looking, too small and not enough wood around it ( had already looked at it though previous to your post)

Here's a pic of the earlier model, Davuvia 39m, I like this too, but seeing as I would probably have to use an M14 gearbox, defeats the object of using an AK47 as donor.
I like this too, an "Italian job", an FNAB-43 this was the one I originally was going to choose, but not enough wood!
Until you said not enough wood I was going to suggest the Leningrad Gun , a variant of the PPSH that was produced under siege in Leningrad where there was a shortage of wood so the woody parts of the PPSH were replaced by pressed steel ,I've always fancied a go at making one , probably a better known gun than the 43M , but if you want wood then it's no good .

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
I know the gun you mean, all metal. I did think of that one too, but again the gap between trigger and mag is a fair length, the only gearbox I've found so far that would be close is the dragonov, I did find a gearbox and motor on eBay that looked longer, but can't remember what it was from.
Andy
The gearbox doesn't necessarily need to be connected to the trigger though - a simple remote microswitch running from above the trigger to the gearbox contacts would suffice. Sure it's easier keeping it all contained within the gear box confines but you're building out of spec; and at the end of the day all its doing in either location is completing an electrical circuit.
I think he wants to use AK internals so a V3 gearbox , you can make an extended nozzle though to make the distance to the magazine , there are losses in power so you need a heavier than normal spring but very doable if you have access to a lath.

Yes you are right, want to use AK47 as donor, have a couple knocking around doing nothing, so ripe for conversion of some sort.
I have looked at extending, gearbox, longer nozz, and even a pipe to feed bb's back to a hidden hop, but that may well be more work than I'm prepared to do at the moment. If I was doing the project from scratch, the remote trigger idea is a good one.
I can shorten the Davuvia 43M a little so it doesn't look too out of proportion, still going through possibilities as yet, but determined to do ww2 look on an AK47 donor base.
It's way down the list of "to do", lots to be finished first, so plenty of time to gather parts and idea's yet.
