Does anyone know methods for finishing aluminium to look like blued steel?
I've got a project going (build thread coming soon) for which I'm making parts out of aluminium.
I've put enquiries out to a couple of local anodising companies, but I was wondering if anyone here has had good results with that or other finishes.
Try Birchwood Casey Aluminium Black, the link below is to the manufacturer's US website but a google search will show up UK stockists and EBay items.

Thanks, Steve, I did look there, and elsewhere before.
I can't understand why people want to make their guns look 60-odd years old, when they should be relatively new...
WRT the Birchwood Casey stuff:
I'm more interested in "fake bluing" than just black.
I know plain black is possible with anodising, and it'd be far more damage-resistant than any cold chemical process.
