Yeah, I've heard the PPS is very good but nobody has them in stock.

From what I've heard from guys who've had the G&G, the main problem is that the FPS is just too damn high to use (it ranges from over 500fps to in excess of 650 on a warm day).

If you've got the time, the best option is to try and convert a DBoys to a VSR spring rifle - there are some useful guides on here that map out the process and the guys who have them have always spoken well of the reliability.

From what I'm reading elsewhere it seems the Matrix K98 is a re-branded PPS.

Just been on the phone with Airsoftzone, they're on their 4th re-stock of the G&G Kar98s and say the only issue they've had with some of them is people pulling the bolt too far back and damaging an internal component (the mag I think he said).

They'll match Zero One's price too (better it actually, as they'll match the price and throw in free delivery). I queried the FPS with both mag types so he's going to test the rifle and call me back in about an hour with the results.

Zero One just lost £400 of business, thanks to their shenanigans with my Ppsh.

Airsoftzone didn't call back, but did send an email saying both magazines are Co2 ( ) so I've ordered a G&G Garand from Land Warrior instead.

well i can reccomend the Ics Garand , we got quite a few in our team , and i have 3 currently lol though will be 2 again soon -- attachment is not available --

I checked out the ICS version yesterday but according to all the reviews the dimensions are badly off and the fit between components is poor. It does function well however. The general conclusion was the G&G one is better though.

Fitting either of them out as a sniper weapon is prohibitively expensive unfortunately. Even the repro scopes are around $300.

It could be an idea to contact G&G direct to try an purchase magazines. I've done that a few time in the past for SA80 spares especially when I modded my L85A1 to L85A2 appearance and needed a replacement cocking handle.

The mags are being retailed in the UK but I've not yet found any suppliers that aren't "Out of Stock". Bloody expensive too, considering what they are. Which is kind of ironic, because on the rifle's box there's a five-point list of G&G attributes, the 5th one being "fair prices". For a very simple 20-round spring mag that feeds only 16 of the 20 rounds £20-ish is taking the proverbial.

The rifle itself however, apart from a few niggles, is quite superb. I don't understand why they made the butt sling-point and peep-sight (very vulnerable to knocks) out of pot metal (possibly proper aluminium?). The other two sling-points are steel. I also thought the wood was real walnut but then I looked inside the butt cavity and the wood is too pale to be walnut. It does seem to be a good quality dense close-grain item though. Wasn't going to strip and refinish it when I thought it was walnut, I now probably will.

Can't seem to find any after-market precision barrels for it either. In fact the lack of detailed info, of any kind, on this rifle on the net is very suprising.

Would it be compatible with M14 upgrade parts? I think I read somewhere that internally they're pretty much M14s.

Cheers Ross but after having a look it seems the G&G M14 has a specific type of barrel for its unusual hop-up unit. It might be the Garand has the same hop-up unit but I'm unable to find confirmation of that.

Sadly the G+G KAR98K is as has been mentioned ,overpowered for the WW2 scene ,the woodwork is laquered not stained and the laquer chips off leaving very blonde wood underneath .
Other than that its functionally relible but not as good as the PPS , the PPS really is worth holding out for ,its main virture other than being Tanaka compatible is that the power is fully adjustable from 140fps to 500fps ,the woodwork is also superior the the G+G ,properly stained and waxed .
You'd regret getting the G+G in the long run .

I stripped all the wood on the Garand this afternoon, I used those sanding blocks and did it under running water. The wood is very pale but good quality with a nice grain and interesting darker patches (fortuitously a fair bit around the grip area, which will help making it look weathered with use when I do the staining).

Unforunately I had the thing lock up on me. I got the gearbox open and found an abomination of what's supposed to be the anti-reversal latch. The latch shares the shaft it's on with a spring and also has to be pinned on a certain side of a second post that is part of the shaft. The abomination is that there is so much free-play along the shaft the spring had forced the latch up so it was barely engaging the gears and twisted it along its axis so it had jammed the bevel. Upon taking everything apart and trying to re-assemble it I realised the top of the latch-shaft needed a shim (0.5mm) if the same lock-up wasn't going to happen again. Two hours trying to get it back together, then another one after realising it wasn't going to work anyway unless I fitted the shim (out of an ancient collection I have). I've watched a video of the gearbox of a G&G M14 being opened and closed and the latch assembly is identical. His didn't need a shim and neither did it need to be pinned down with a screwdriver while trying to get the gearbox shells closed. It took both hands of me and my wife to get it done. Absolute f**g nightmare.

But yeah, nice wood.
