Getting on with the Enfield builds at last, these two moving into stage 4, barrels to cut down end caps to fit on cylinder extension, then get them shooting. Butt plate, “wrist” band on receiver, along with top receiver parts, and front sight to make.

Made some butt plates today, near enough copy of original, which you can’t find very easy these days, and prices are always going up. Just a bit of 22 gauge steel knocked about on a wood former to get the shape.

Moved on a bit at last, receiver “superstructure” done, foresight to make, charge handle to shape, should then be close to finish, only about 3 months behind!

@dada-phlott , last year I priced these at about £350, buying donor guns from Taiwangun, but now, it’s not  really an advantage to get from abroad, you can still buy them cheap, but now the customs tax is a size 12 in the goolies, and the time and faffing around with UPS to get them delivered, so I’ve opted to buy from Patrol Base…..when they have them in stock, so the price has gone up a bit £375 for a no.4 the smle will be around the same price as long as I can fabricate the front cap, if I have to buy originals….more money!

Have got a fair long waiting list at the moment, these ones should have been finished in March, but what with Covid and such like crap I’m behind in production.

Finished the first two at last, will be taking these to the WW2 show at Red Alert on Saturday 31st, have more to do, will also do some Smle types, I think everyone is waiting for the S&T Smle to arrive, but I’m still going to make some.

The weather is slowing me down a bit now, and days are getting shorter, but it’s all still happening, will be starting third batch shortly, hoping to get all woodwork done before winter sets in hard. The metal work takes longer but can do some of that under cover.

I will be taking more orders for no.4 Enfield’s in a month or so, a bit behind with them right now have to clear a few out of the way, plus re-coup a bit of money, before I can do more.

I will probably do another ten, if I get enough orders. I’ll message you when I’m ready to take orders.

There has been some hype about ARES about to release their version of a no.4 Enfield, I’ve no doubt they will sell. My own opinion of the ARES manufacturing co., are they are not a great company on quality control, or at least they haven’t been so far. So time will tell on the product. There has already been some complaints about the S&T smle version Enfield, not a very good hop unit, breakages in the loading ramp parts etc. but I suppose this is to be expected.

I will continue to make my version until nobody wants them, but as they are are based on a very reliable platform (vsr), and spare parts are in abundance, and easy to work on, I personally think they will outlast many of the others, no expensive, hard to obtain proprietary parts. So all those people who asked for one of my creations, they are still being made, although I’m many months behind in production they are nearing completion.

Totally agree with you Andy, Qc at ares can be very poor ( 1st hand experience). One good thing from the ares announcement however is having access to a cheaper replica scope. When they are released would you be able to install one of these scopes on the vsr n04?

Yeah Im concerned about the quality of the ares ones as well and would much rather a more rugged and easily fixed version, so I still think yours is the best option
