Hello all
putting the finishing touches to my american load out and decided despite not really finding a use for them in the past I'd quite like a pistol. Unfortunatly having spent most of my cash on the other bits im running on a budget hehe. the obvious choice is the 1911 but im wondering what other choices I may have? ie captured pistols etc like a italian or german gun.
and whether they do them in spring or gas? Im not a huge fan of gas but its preferable to spring in some ways. I'll probably have to buy 2nd hand but brand new could be an option too. either way looking for suggestions as I've never ventured much into pistols before and dont know what brands are good and what arent etc. So please offer up your advice!
Cheers
Rhys

hmmm interesting one that. If you did MP as your impression then you could have a revolver instead of a Colt although must say the TM Colt 45 is a beaut! Some troops did have the odd captured luger (in reality usually a Walther 38 or P38 ) so maybe, but they'd be rocking horse and very unusual to see.
The WE 1911A1 in metal is a bargain, only downside is on a long duration event like Churchills you may find you have to keep toping up the mags with gas, I may go for somthing that fits in the holster but more reliable to save carrying gas with me, now where did I put my Glock 18C
RSOV do them but ask Keith for the 1911A1 & not the comander

I was looking at the we version but read a few dodgy things about it on acsuk. venting/valve problems as the gun wears on in use. have you had the same problem with it steve?

Not had any problems with malfunctions or wear, but the gas seaps out of the mags after a few hours, the gas only lasts 1 mag, in this weather there spot on, the trick is to lubricate them, there nice & heavy, shoot at 310 fps ish, come with a spare mag, less price than a TM, Oddball has 2 WE 19911A1's too,
Steve.D

leaks out and only lasts for 1 mag? bleh doesnt sound great but it is full metal at least

Now if you want somthink that looks like a 1911, ( cheap ) & slightly more reliable I may just have the thing for you
Will PM you about it,
Steve.D

im intrigued ![]()

I've had problems with malfunctions (occasionally the slide doesn't load the next bb in) and wear (though I've tidied it up with a touch-up pen) on my WE 1911, but no problems with leaking at all...
So totally the opposite from Steve.D! lol
Other options:
Daddy or Uncles would sometimes give their sons their trusty police/home defense/service revolvers. Mostly .38s.
One particular tank battalion was equipped with .38Super instead of the M1911/M1911A1 (probably left-over stock, like the 1st FSSF was not equipped with BARs but with Johnson LMGs)
Lugers were prized because many GIs had heard their fathers talk about these pistols from WWI. The P38s were more numerous, but also prized.
In general regular infantry was not to have side-arms (except radio, logistics, weapons and vehicle crews). Many liked the added security and picked one up from the battlefield, stole it or requested one from back home.
Getting ammo would be a bit of a problem for the more exotic calibers.
Airborne troops of course got anything they requested. So plenty of 1911s there.

what about a browning has anyone tried one of those?

what about a browning has anyone tried one of those?
I think Yith has a Browning?
(Yup... and I tried to reply... and at the same time the net went down!)
One word on the browning... "Fragile"
It looks great, shoots okay, but if you put any gas other than HFC134a through it then it will break... almost immediately.
The plastic is so light and flimsy that it just snaps at the merest thought of powerful gas. To be honest I'm not sure I'd trust it on 134a that much either. I think even a slight knock on the slide and it'll crack.
Its not really a skirmishable gun.
How about a revolver?
The Tanaka S&W M10 Military and Police is fairly appropriate.
Ideally you'd want the "Victory" version, but as far as I can see to convert the Tanaka revolver to one of those only really requires a new pair of plain wooden grips rather than the chequered ones that come with it. If you can find originals they'll probably fit or failing that its only a small bit of woodworking.
thats a bloomin good idea Yith. quite like the look of them too. fairly reasonably priced also.
one question though how do revolvers load both gas and bb's being as they have no "mag". is it cylinder related and are some kind of shells involved?

All the Tanakas have gas and bbs in the cylinder. The shells are cosmetic and don't actually exist as such. The way it works is a bit odd and hard to describe. After reading a load of reviews I only understood them when I finally saw one in person!
Revolvers from the other manufacturers tend to have gas in the grip and the bbs either just in the cylinder or in shells. It varies.
The Tanaka M10 has a nice weight to it... its quite small though! Will fit in a 37 pat holster without any problems. I beleive the capacity is 11 (ish) bbs.
All revolvers do suffer from fairly poor accuracy compared with GBB, not sure why... but being NBB they tend to be quieter and more reliable.
Note that of course reloading takes a lot longer!
I have a Marushin M10 that I like because it is a removable shell version with a true 6 shot gun with removable shells. Its very, very, very rare... Given the choice I should probably have gone for the tanaka... but the marushin was too tempting at the ludicrously low price I got it.
thanks for that. have put a wanted up to see what pops up on the forums but failing something good appearing will probably take steve up on his offer. Im mulling over how difficult i'd be to get the glock aep to look like a browning though lol. simply because I dont like the hassale of having to carry gas and reload every few hours because it seeps out.

Gas seep out?
My marushin was still full after about a month's storage... ![]()
you must be the lucky one
alot of friends who have them find in 5-12 hours time theres beggar all in the mags.
do your we1911 mags leak at all?
