I've got a couple of guns I no longer use, because they're not WW2, and I'm trying to decide what to do with them. First is my olive stock TM M14, which I guess is a prime candidate for conversion to a Garand. My main problem with that is that I'm not capable of doing that work, because of lack of ability and tools! FPS is only about 280, but it does have great range because of its superior hop. (Dunno how the range compares with a cheapsoft one?) The other gun is a TM MP5, which has only had a few mags fired through it. I'm wondering if the innards could be used for some sort of project - I've no idea what the standard FPS of an MP5 is? The real gun I'd like to make is the Gewehr 43, but I've heard that there is not a lot of room inside the stock. Would the MP5 be a suitable donor gun for that or not?

Unfortunately, the MP5's motor location rules it out as a donor for a G43 (also why the otherwise perfect for the job PSG1 is ruled out too). The M14 is feasible, but really only if you have access to some pretty serious machinery for making a new receiver (the main reason I haven't attempted it myself!).
If you're talking axis weapons, the MP5 is ok as a donor for a machinegun but there are better alternatives (AK47) and the M14 is a great donor gearbox for all sorts of wonderful things.

MP5 magwell is about half the size of an MP44/Ca33 though.

oh of course but that was the only gun I could think of its close to heh
jay851 has already started making a G43 using a M14 gearbox, I've got most of the parts myself and I'm intending to use a M14 as a donor.
With regard to the MP5 you could use it to build a Patchett (aka Sterling) as they were issued to the British during Operation Market Garden.
BTW just thought Warren does a Garand conversion, and I think 1 of the options is to send your gun and he'll do the work
