I have just got my PPS k98 and I set it to around 350fps on the supplied mag. I have 2 other PPS mags and they are the dual gas type and they are shooting at 170fps. Now that seems unusual to say the least.

Has anyone ever seen something similar?

Not really unusual for gas, different make mags, different size gas inlets, spring sizes etc. The weather will affect too!

Interesting, is this normal for gas bolt actions?

I am not new to gas rifles, new to gas bolties but not gas guns.

My GHK M4 or my GHK AK's don't have this issue.

This might make the PPS difficult to use with the 3 mags if they're all giving different fps.

I've had the differences with mags on pistols, same make, different power, or gassing out before empty of bb's, there is quite a lot of variables, takes time to pin point problems, are your other mags new? I have had some mags, never got to find the problem, tried in another gun, work fine, as you probably know, gas can be quite finicky.
I've tried gas rifles that work perfect inside, outside,.......bloody terrible! I won't have gas rifles anymore, I can deal with the pistols, they are not so much grief, and cheaper to sort out! Didn't like electric rifles at first.......now that's all I'll have, no gas rifles at all!

If it's a dual gas type, presumably it's calibrated to give a usable FPS when using Co2? Stands to reason that it'd yield a lower velocity when using Green gas if that's the case

I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.

Ah, I'd not thought of that, that has got to be the case.

Did you find the problem?

It seems the variation is indeed due to the dual gas feature. I can get the required fps from them but then it is too high on the green gas mag.

I changed the spring in the bolt for the CO2 one and running it with CO2 now.

Well done, normally the CO2 will put out more power than green gas. How easy to change spring?

Oh, I didnt see this thread when I made my last post. I've got the dual gas mags but cant use Co2 because the gasnozzle doesnt pierce the cartridge seal.
I've tried several mags and Co2 cartridges but keep running into the same problem. Trying to figure out whats wrong atm did you have any trouble with this?

Mine are now working really well. I don't have to turn the allen screw much to pierce the co2 capsule.

They have stopped working as well now. I have 4 of the dual gas types and when I try to shoot I get a click but no gas. I have the replacement spring fitted and I took it to bits today and tightened the internal parts. I have ordered the replacement hammer from Germany.

Any ideas?

You'll get lots of this with gas, you will have to persevere with the the choice, sort one problem, .....along comes another.

I have had many gas guns, this is my first bolt action.

I naively thought these would be far more simple and less stressful. ;)

Yes, that would have been my guess as well, you would've thought the bolt action would be easier.
