i have a question for the airsoft techies out there.
im trying to set up the trigger mechanism in a project im doing and for the life of me cant work out how the fire selector works.
i have been looking at a m14 gearbox where the trigger bits are on the side of the gearbox, and im moving the selector from semi to full and i cant see any difference on the metal contacts between the two. is there some sort of interupt on semi? please help as this is doing my swede in now.
cheers
jay

I thinks its a mechanical rather than electrical difference . One position engages the return latch , the other allows it to slide over the latch to repeat the cyccle ie auto . Not an easy box to play with TBH .

cheers fella
would i be right in saying that the small leg on the bottom of the selector arm that enters the gearbox is the part that engages the return latch.if so thats buggered it.

I've seen a posting about an electronic device that can be used to allow you to set up burst firing, and it was suggested that by setting the device to 1 would equate to semi-auto and then switching the device off would allow fully-auto, (if that makes sense :? ), thus doing away with the mechanical select fire mechanism.

I'm fairly sure I saw it on the US ww2 site as a solution to a similar problem to this, I'll have a look tonight, (I can't see that forum at work :( ) ), there was a link to another site which I'll post as soon as I find it.

On the 50 cal, I wired the trigger open on full auto and then used a microswitch on the paddle trigger to actually fire the gun , however I don't know what you are using the box for so this may not work .

Pete, its a MOSFET based trigger system. Does away with the need for a high-current trigger switch and hence there is no stress on the electrical contacts. The semi/burst is achieved by having a timer keep the power on for a bit longer when you pull the trigger. (basically using something like a 555 timer)
