The silencer was found not to work on the Thompson, it was too loud a gun I believe. If my memory serves Grease guns with silencers were preferred by OSS.

As to what is looks like? I dunno. :?

Did they have one? I must have just given up by that point and just been going through the motions until Gary Oldman talked to me again.

A red dot sight? As in laser? As in developed in 1960?

Unless I am missing some vital 'gunn-iness' here I should seriously doubt anyone would make one for a Thompson.

I think you'll find it wasn't until the 1970s before room-temperature laser diodes were demonstrated.

Besides, "red dot" tends to describe an optical sight where a red dot is visible only when you're looking directly down the aiming axis, not a projecting laser sight.
This kind of optical gun-sight was used extensively in fighter aircraft during WW2, and was the predecessor of today's Head-Up Display.

As far as I'm aware, the only "aperture sights" fitted to Thompsons were the Lyman adjustable sights available pre-M1. The fixed ones are usually referred to as "peep-hole".

I know it is jsut a game, but I have seen a couple and was wondering where they were sold, if not if they had to make them. thats all :) Saint

That kind of sight would be virtually useless in reality - it's not long enough to provide a means of axial alignment.

yup. Vital gun-iness.

And let be a lesson to all who type 'laser' into wikipedia without remembering the room temperature diode part. :waggle:

Hello,
I am currently looking for two items for a thompson M1A1:
An apeture sight and a Thompson silencer.
dose anyone know where I could fine these two items?
as I do not know what a thompson silencer looks like at all, and I am un-able to find any suppliers of apeture sights only images.
Saint.

Sometimes StFoulis I think you are trying to wind forum members up.
Both items you describe are a fiction made up for the CoD game, there are no such items made for Thompson airsoft guns as the sales of such items would be zero. Well, one - sold to you.

If you really wanted to 'upgrade' your Thompson (if you have one) then why not tape the cardboard tube from a kitchen roll on the end of the barrel and paint it black? The red dot is tricky as there is nothing on the market that looks like that AFAIK, so can you either buy a cheap red dot from ebay (£20 or so - they don't work like proper red dots do but they do have a red dot) or just cut the shape out of cardboard, stick a cellophane sweetie wrapper across it and dot it with a red pen.

Right, that's that sorted.

Looks good.

All you need is a camo paint job on it.

Could probably do with the light/laser on a side rail so the bipod doesn't obstruct it.

Besides, a grenade launcher under under a Thompson = M41A Pulse Rifle.

No it doesn't. I equals a rather ghey looking Thompson with a grenade launcher under it.

This is a pulse rifle:

Does that look like a Thompson with a grenade launcher under it? Yes, it's built from a Thompson, but a Thompson it is not. It's akin to saying a Ferrari is the same as a Transit van because they both have a rectangular chassis.

Hey, how about this:

Seriously though, I'm not sure a WW2 forum is the right place to ask questions about modifications that bear no relation to fact or reality.
