Polish

Either a Denison smock or Battledress is acceptable. Either an Airborne Helmet or a Polish Para Beret. Enlisted man only for bling and 'special stuff'.
Do try to do something 'Polish' - a Beret is striking, or a stenciled yellow eagle on the helmet - as opposed to just turn up in Brit kit ignoring it. It is part of the fun. :D

German

any Heer, SS, Luftwaffe Field Divison and even Kriegsmarine are perfectly fine for this game. Enlisted man only for bling and 'special stuff'.
Specifically the units of 'Gruppe-d' facing the Poles were composed of :
Machine Gun Battalion 41;
Kampfgruppe 'Köhnen' (Kreigsmarine);
Alarm Bataillon 'Schörken';
Kampfgruppe 'Kauer' (Luftwaffe); and
III./SS-Grenadier Regiment 'Landstorm Nederland'

If people know of specific oddities of these uniforms, or want to work together with friends to look 'the same' I wholehartedly support you in your endevours, so feel free to begin talking about the specific odd socks that were worn. :D

p.s. I like Navies, so come on Kriegsmarine! :whistle:

Germans, what kit do we have? I can go Heer or Waffen SS. I'm cuffed up as Hohenstaufen, but it would be the perfect excuse to get a smock! :P

[edit] In fact, to clarify, I am going to buy a smock now, so I will be going as III./SS-Grenadier Regiment 'Landstorm Nederland'. Please join me if you are able! 8)
[2nd edit] Actually, since reading that the unit was "poorly armed and trained", and seeing how cheap one can buy a cuff title and right collar tab on ebay, I think it's highly likely that they (like the Hohenstaufen at Arnhem) would actually not have much camo at all. :lol: Less than £15 posted for the cuff title and collar tab - I'm going for that.

Andy

I think we are likely to have a mix of uniforms for this one I believe some are going LFD, some Heer and some SS. Doesnt matter really as squads will be small so we can probably still rank up nice :good: I think I will join you as SS with FG Feldbluse not sure if I will have money for cuff title though :roll:

You don't need a cuff title. Lots of SS men never got them.

I think me, Lardy and Tim are coming as LFD, which at this stage of the war is essentially Heer plus the odd lufty bit anyway. I was toying with getting some LFD collar tabs for my Fliegerbluse though (currently badged for FJ).

If the Polish numbers don't pick up I might go as Polish and free up a German place, but we'll see how recruitment goes in the next few weeks. I'd rather go as German though.

Cheers

Technically speaking I'm not even going LWFD, just LW forced into fighting in the ground role as part of battalion Kauer. Thats mainly an excuse not to have to change my collar tabs though. :D I'll therefore be in mostly LW kit but as Martin says by that stage it was a complete mismash of Heer & LW anyway.

Cool :good: , I don't as the ones I had were 'use once' types which have now fallen apart.

Let me just have a look for you. I got mine from these chaps: http://www.pathfindergroupuk.com/WW2%20Uniforms.htm in Poland, but I have seen images of them online that can be simply used.

I shall have a hunt

I bought my helmet at the Angels sell off of kit and the eagle is still just about descernable - (ooo was it used in a Bridge Too Far or Eagle has Landed i wonder), so a wee spruce up with a new transfer one would be great. I think its an RAC helmet modded to look like a para. Unfortunately, just looking for it yeaterday and the secrew/bolt holding the liner has dropped out somewhere - anythoughts on where to get a new screw/bolt chap?

I don't know. Maybe a quick post in the Brit and 'Commonwealth' ( ;) ) section would precipitate a speedy response from those in the know.

SOF:

Probably the first one as the bottom ones fit the chin strap to a para helmet.

Regarding helmet eagles I found the pathfinder ones and these http://www.warhats.com/ww2--pre-wwii-other-stencils.html. The pathfinder one seems a bit blobby but looks similar to the few original ones I have found in pictures. I am thinking that the war hat one may be a bit too good for a typical appearance?

the pathfinder one does look spot on when on a helmet to what I have seen - though the war-hats people did manage to paint theirs somewhat more 'blobby' than the stencil suggests.

They seem a lot larger than the one on my Angels helmet. Is this right and my stencil is too small? I'll try and take a pic if I can work things technological!

The story/unit I'm basing my kit off if anyone is interested:

http://www.marketgarden.com/2010/UK/veterans/ackermann.html

I'm not sure if my insignia is the wrong colour or not. I have yellow for FJ/aircrew/schools but I guess a radar school came under the umbrella of signals so it probably should be brown. :blink:
