I've seen *one* pic of a smock with rank insignia on the arm - and that was on a one-off zip-neck smock, most likely produced by a unit tailor. Thats it. 99.99999% of the pics ive seen have no insignia on them at all.

Definitely looks like it there. looks like it is painted on, rather than being a patch?

Your man is LW FJ, so the LW eagle on the right chest is correct.

Waffen-SS Camo - '44 Dot Camo I think was 'officially' no insignia, but there are lots of examples of wearing the arm eagle, even some wearing eagles, rank, cuff and medals.

As for Heer, I have seen some officers wearing the 'green band' rank, but not any EM's wearing such.

I'll take a look through my Brian L. Davis and other reference books and confirm

Regulations stated the only insignia on camo kit was the tactical rank symbols (bars and oakleaves)

on smocks thats it but its rare

on pea pattern parkas, and the like its supposed to be just national eagle and tac rank.
However lots of soldiers disobeyed regs and put shoulder straps on other awards etc. The higher up you were the more likely you are to get away with it.

However its exceptional and not very 'representative' to do that for what i'e read.

To back up the above, insignia on smocks [SS and Heer] is almost unknown. It did appear on the '44 dot tunics, many wore arm eagles, some wore shoulder boards but litzen were rare. The subdued rank markings were more often seen on Parkas, never seen eagles on parkas.
Field/tailor made camo tunics by their nature are a law unto themselves, quite rare and usually seen on officers.
