Very nice indeed

Beautiful job! What did you use for the paint? The main issue with mine is that it is too shiny.
Get a tin of black satin enamel paint and a dirty great brush, and get to work with them for that authentic look.

Thanks! Actually, i was already contacting my friend in India re ordering the bike you guys got. But then i got the Mister Cycle in a trade. The Indian bike is indeed a great deal because you already have the correct shaped (and spring configuration) seat and more or less the correct looking rear rack. All you have to change are the brakes and handle bars and you already have a decent civilian fahrrad or (oldtimer fahrrad in Ebay.de). Regarding paint, maybe you could just sand the gloss coat off? According to my research, these bikes were issued just plain old black. Not glossy, not flat, not satin. But just regular black. Hubs, handlebars, spokes were all black. The rear fender had the white tip for visibility and usually the regimental symbol.

That does sound the easiest option, it would need a bit of sanding to key it first.
Cheers

Yup, i've started that job on mine already, all the chrome needs to be sanded off. the wheels will be the most challenging!
My ersatz leather Werkzeugtasche from German ebay was delivered yesterday. £16.52 including shipping
I went for the model which fits infront of the seatpost, both models were used and both are readily available on ebay.de

Thanks Martin yours looks good.
Did you Key all the chrome parts before priming same for the frame or did you just prime over and paint?
No, I didn't bother sanding the chrome, too much like hard work. I just touch up the paint on the odd bits where it flakes (well that was the plan, in fact I haven't even bothered to do that). Just sprayed primer over the lot and then the top coat.
Why do a job properly when you can bodge it

Gordon, the Germans, like the Brits, used "militarized" versions of civilian roadster models. From a very informative pdf on the topic:
http://www.gr916.co.uk/assets/pdfs/Das% ... ahrrad.pdf
When the bicycle left the factory it was painted in satin black. Everything was black except the chrome or nickel-plated parts. Throughout it’s service the bicycle was often repainted including the chrome and nickel-plated parts (to prevent glinting). Black was the preferred colour but some evidence shows they were also painted in appropriate camouflage

Thats me sorted for the summer to keep me busy. All arrived the other day including pump and clips. Just need to source a lamp
20151003_170313[1].jpgbeen a while now but finished. Thought I would do a Pioneer one so badged as Pioneer and adapted it for Panzerfaust and 3Kg Charge satchel. was thinking of also slinging from the crossbar a Tellerminen 42 as there are some great pictures of those.
Sourced some original parts from the 40`s but not the correct front Push type brake and sadly as the front lap is 70 years old i still cannot get it to work but the bulb still works
Its a bitch to ride with a fixed gear so i would not like to ride it across France Ala 1940 but it is fun.
Looks great Gordon, top work
I can just imagine it leaning up against a lamp post outside your local shops ,I wonder if anybody would recognize the panzerfoust

if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Lovely job Gordon. Now we just need a site where we can ride them!
