Thats my point josh.

we have a good bunch here and we know each other but many sites do require you to have a pistol as they simply cant trust every walk on to back off or give themselves up if they are surprised ten feet away.

Now we might have done it with 'assumption' that you dont have to behind it but im still positive we've said that to field high power rifles you are expected to have a sidearm in the past.

Not stirring just saying why i genuinely thought it was one of the rules, its the main reason i bought my m10 as my no4 does 400 fps.

On the flipside FPS means little, my SA80 is currently kicking out at about 185fps and i still didnt feel outgunned at the mall , even when shooting down the length of the shopping centre.

I've personally always been a big fan of 328 across the board for airsoft. One of the reasons i quite like UCAP.

I think the score is: CiA more than 350, PBI less than 350. Points means prizes, highest score wins.

They will run out of ammo... and most certainly will when blatting away with only 300 rounds to use for a life.

I spent the morning of Ariel with a 400ish fps blot action, which was fun, but I was concious of how close I could get, so stayed in more of a sniping, sneaky role rather than as part of any full on assaults as I only have 1 mag for my pistol ! I used about 50 rounds all morning, despite being in some pretty heavy action. I thought the dominance of bolt actions gave the Thompsons and stens on our side a really good tactical role in close assault. As would have been their purpose. If we suspected someone was lurking in a bush we would pop a couple of enfield round in and let the machinegunner blast away for a while to see what he could flush out.

I went out in the afternoon with a Thmopson and when I got into close combat I ruled ! Blazing away on full auto and anhiliating the enemy. However I promptly ran out of ammo and twice wound up down to my last clip in a squad of riflemen, squatting in a bush waiting for the tactically appripriate moment to shoot the rest of my load, as it were.

If you keep the limited ammo rules, then I don't think that the range of rifles vs SMGs matters. SMG users will soon blaze throgh their ammo, no matter how cautious they are. I am one of the least trigger happy airsofters I know and I still ended up running out.

Now add into the mix some proper squad support weapons with a much higher ammo limit - 2000 ? Then you have the makings of some pretty realistic tactics. My running out of ammo was in part due to the fact that I was taking a support weapon mentality and blasting away to give cover fire and keep the enemy's heads down - not the role of an SMG normally. So if we had a Bren gunner with us I might have been a bit lighter with my trigger finger.

Also, considering the fact that my 400fps crappy chinasoft VSR broke, I will be taking the downgrade challenge myself to see if it makes a difference ot the reliability.

Broadsword, if your VSR breaks, don't automatically assume it's the trigger sears or the piston. Check the front screw on the trigger mechanism housing as well. They have a nasty habit of undoing themselves, or of stripping their threads. Mine used to do it all the time, an absolute pain in the arse.

If its coming loose, Loctite it. If it's stripped the thread, Helicoil it.

Everyone knows that in the UK forces Ferrets were replaced with Foxes for cunning , not Weasels , which are an american abomination.

Anyway , given the size of your trousers you'd be lucky to get a pair of moles down them let along a brace of ferrets.

FPS = Flipping Pricey Stick ....which is what a K98 become when you are less than 25m away from your target.

Got as far as page 4, then gave up...

I don't own a spring bolt action, but from spares I've seen online, couldn't the FPS be changed very quickly by using a different bolt?

Certainly can and quite a cool idea to have a close action and sniper option. I dont know if you can buy just the bolt though, which may mean buying the same rifle twice...which is a bit pooh :slap:

Nothing new to the flash git (more money than sense) systema owners out there though. Changing a piston unit for an instant change of fps (usually after chrono'ing! :ghey: ).

Having read the thread, I chatted to a couple of our regular players on site, who have just moved over to sniping, and convinced them to go along with Yiths idea and run at 330 fps. One has a VSR and the other a bar 10. Both guys have worked on their guns to go towards consistancy and stealth over power. Today was the first full day game that they played. I had to mention in the safety brief that two snipers were running sub 350 guns and warned all players these guys have no MED. Everyone was happy with that, and both guys told me at the end of the day that they had no problem with 50 - 60 yd hits and the fact they didnt have an MED really improved the fun they had. I'm not saying they are going to ditch 500fps all together, but I know them both well enough to stick with one or the other for the whole day, so there wont be any confusion or safety issues.
Just thought I should post the results, sub 350 adds a different experience for the player, which they both very much enjoyed. :good:

For normal days at Finmere i'll be using it at 500fps as all bolt actions get an MED regardless of fps to make it easier for the marshals to keep an eye on.

Gawd, I hadn't factored that into any argument. Hoorah for marshal-less games!
