I've got the same issue. I've just had to buy one form SOF.

Anyone have any good remedies for curing its tangonitus?

Brown boot polish?

If you have a Lidl near you they sell a sponge on polish which I used on my boots, 1911 holster and chinstrap.
Turned it a mid brown colour instead of orange which isn't too bad now.

lol i've got a helmet net from SOF. Its a bit of a puzzle....but u need to place it on the helmet and then posistion the string like its a draw string bag...the edges will then close up around the helmet....took 2 pairs of hands, for me.

Just received: D Bales for my M1 helmet project & a NOS front cylinder lock and Screw for my M1 project.

Unfortunately I can't afford the external gas tank or extra mags at the moment so it might be a while before it gets an outing :(

Not fully thought that one out yet, I know a favoured place with the guys who've got stg44s is in the german gasmasks containers, so it'll depend on what sort of loadout I do, if it's British airborne, (which I believe were the only ones to test the patchett), it might fit it the gasmask bag fitted on the back of the webbing belt if not I could put it in the small pack, if I use it for an 80's loadout it may fit into the cape-roll on the back of the 58 webbing, I won't know for sure until I get the gas tank.
