Called in at Anchor Supplies today (with daughter who was looking for used German para type boots instead for Doc Martins - very poor selection of boots at Anchor these days, knackered goretex boots for £75?) and picked up a couple of hurricane lanterns to add to the boxful, couple of towels, couple of white enamel mugs, four enamel plates and two landrover chairs. The whole lot was £34 so there ARE bargains to be had at Anchor but it's nothing like it was years ago!

Ripley depot - and yes it's Chinese crap (mostly)

Still, ex-army landrover chairs for £2.50 each and ex-army towels £1.50 can't be bad!

Just out of interest Alex, if you're after a Mae West, wouldn't it look a little out of place without the parachute pack and reserve chute?

Nice. I have a similar article which I made by cutting up a swedish wool tunic. great for the summer! :good:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

The book "Unless Unless You Have Been There" by Paul J. Andert and Lowell P. Johnston.

The personal account of Andert's participation as a platoon sergeant in the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division, fighting in seven major campaigns and two major landings in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

Interesting read so far
