Yes, that's a large pack. Perfect for you.

The straps with it do go with it. They're a pair of 37 pattern utility straps. When used with a pair of L-straps you'll find they go over the front of the pack in order to hold it shut or to carry a helmet or other items.

I'd say the fittings were all brass.

It's not an early one or anything special like that, it's just bog standard. Probably with the straps it's saved you up to about a tenner.

Bare in mind the large pack is one of the few items of the '08 webbing set to be used in the 37 pattern webbing set. As I said though, this isn't a really old pack. It's wartime or post war. There are lots like this around.

Everyone used them as school bags when I was a kid as they cost nothing much and could hold folders as well as books - most of us customised them to hell with painted/biro'd/felt penned designs. Duffle bags for PE kit though!

Yup... by the time I was a kid we had canvas ones made especially for school stuff as the war had been over for more than a year.

But they looked a lot like 37 pat stuff.

We all used them at school too. Although thinking about it, they were probably German surplus.....

I can remember just about the entire Sixth form used them , and the coolest jacket ( sixth form were excused blazers) was a camo para jacket - otherwise known as a Denison - wish I still had mine now !

That Russian style helmet I got on ebay for £6 arrived today, a pair of Red army shoulder boards, small red army hat badge & a Red army guards badge, more stuff on route from Russia but with the royal mail it could take some time.

Is that an edition made during the war? Or one set, somehow, in the war?

Edition made during the war period with the metal pieces replaced with wood and card ones to save metal for the war effort.

Has it still got the card spinner, instead of the dice?
