Oh, and the unusual webbing water bottle had a 1953 date on it, so it's not that interesting now! ;)

Don't be disheartened by it, I've got a '30s/'40s one like that. Mine is very similar in construction to the normal 'frame' bottle holsters (but with the obvious ommision of the locking straps), except that it is finished with two loops anchoring two small metal hoops/rings to which a thin [thinner than normal webbing] over-shoulder style strap in buckled to. I think it is type of holster initially provided for the second bottle which normally lives in your small pack. Sorry, can't get pictures of it just yet for comparison.

EDIT: Just bothered to look back in this thread to see your original picture, and it's exactly the same as the one you've got there, except war dated. So, it's hopefully not as duff as first thought.

It has also been suggested to me that, that type of waterbottle was for cavalry usage... meh...

Which make sense as cavalry were not isssued with 37 pat webbing (they got the 1903 bandolier and belt - i've got one upstairs...) so would have no way of attaching a regular frame or envelop bottle carrier.

One m43 tunic in dot 44 camo - hbt
One pair of matching trousers

Both bought from Spearhead - very good prices, very prompt delivery, ie 13 days from payment via paypal to them arriving at the house - :D

Good quality, too - not so good, however - I ordered the 'vintage' version of both items and received less expensive, untreated items - I have sent an appropriately polite message and am waiting on the reply -

Two sets of majors epaulettes and lutzen from the states for $17 posted. Not sure about the lutzen , solid metal stampings instead of wire ? No idea if this correct or not .

Having mistakenly sent me the non-vintage camo items, Spearhead have offered to refund me the sum of $15 US - something at least, and absolutely no quibbles - so I will no doubt use them again - :D
